Report: Nutt had plans to be UA’s athletic director
The stories coming out of this year’s SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla., have been great.

Frank Broyles
Today’s bit of news courtesy of Ron Higgins of the Memphis Commercial Appeal is another gem. Here’s the scoop: Although it may not be a surprise, Houston Nutt and Frank Broyles had made strides to make the former Oklahoma State athlete the school’s athletic director upon Nutt’s retirement from coaching. The dream began in earnest in 1998.

Houston Nutt
“I thought I was going to be there until I was retirement age, and then I was going to step into (the athletic director) shoes of Coach (Frank Broyles),” said Nutt, who resigned after 10 seasons at Arkansas last November to become head coach at Ole Miss.
“He told me that. He told me, ‘Let’s make that our goal.’ He helped me a lot of different ways. He trained me administratively to prepare me in some ways for that.”
But, as we all know, Nutt resigned last November, Broyles retired Jan. 1 and former Pittsburgh AD Jeff Long stepped in to take the AD reins.
If Nutt had stayed on and become the athletic director at a later date, what would that have been like?

HDN for AD, eh? There was a time when I may have supported such a thing.
However, those days have passed and I am really jacked up about the direction the athletic department seems to be heading under Jeff Long. He seems to understand the unbelievable fans and tradition in Hog land. Having said that, if the Bobby Petrino hire is any indication, the Razorbacks are on the rise, in all sports.
THANK GOD IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a toilet of deceit and lack of integrity would have overshadowed and driven the program. Any coach with an ounce of sense and moral fiber wouldn’t touch the Broyles complex with a ten mile long cattle prog with him as boss.
We dodged a SERIOUS bullet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an arrogant egotistical Ahole! It would havce been Frank Jr, medeling in the football program. I will be glad when he is a distant memory (and Frank is not far off)
