ABC to broadcast Arkansas-Texas

The long-awaited Razorback match-up with the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 13 will be broadcast on ABC, according to a UA news release.

Not a big surprise that it has been picked up by a national network, but for those that didn’t know, the Hogs rarely appear on the Alphabet network. CBS has a contract with the Southeastern Conference, as does ESPN. So, when the Hogs do make national television, it’s usually on one of those two networks.

But thanks to Texas’ allegiance to the Big 12, ABC has first rights for the Sept. 13 game in Austin this upcoming season.
The Hogs have not appeared in a regular season game on ABC since 2003. What game was that, you ask? A 38-28 trouncing of the Longhorns in Austin on Sept. 13.

By the way, the Hogs are 12-28-1 when appearing on ABC.

Texas was set to finish out the home-and-home series with the Hogs in Fayetteville in 2009, but that game has been postponed until at least 2014 because of the recent announcement of a 10-year series with Texas A&M in Arlington, Texas.

    In the old days of SWC football, Texas always looked at Arkansas as just another opponent. UA on the other hand, lost games against Texas because of all the hype by fans and pressure going along with it, in my opinion.

    Things have changed Razorback fans. The SEC is a better conference than the Big 12 and the facilities in Fayetteville are just as impressive as the facilities in Austin.

    In addition, the series has become very competitive. I live in Texas, and UT fans would be the first to agree, in this regard - although they cannot understand the reasons why.

    Without exception, every SEC game is more important than the game with UT. Lets beat them, once again, but not give the Horns more credit than they are worth. GO HOGS!

    Texas week was pretty fun on the Hill every year. I always thought it was cool that our drum major would wait until we were standing right by the Longhorn Band before he would bring us to attention to which we would reply, “Go Hogs!, Beat Texas!.”Unfortunately, this rivalry has lost its lustre which is too bad for both programs.

    I GREW UP IN texas WHEN THE SWC WAS STRONG. MY HATRED OF THE longhorns RUNS AS DEEP AS ANY RAZORBACK FAN, I CAN’T WAIT FOR ANOTHER CRACK AT ‘EM.     Hehe… I agree, but hold the hype, man. I want the Razorbacks to win every game, every year, including Florida, Alabama, Auburn…… and Texas. UT is just another game - and not nearly as important as SEC play.
