McFadden impressing, learning in Oakland

Darren McFadden has been impressive to reporters in the Bay area at Raiders minicamp. The coaches, however, have been looking for flaws. After all, that is their job — to find mistakes and correct them.

Running backs coach Tom Rathman noticed something peculiar with the way McFadden carried the ball this weekend, according to the Sacramento Bee:

“I told him he’s got to lock his elbow down,” Rathman said. “A lot of times his elbow wasn’t locked to the side, and obviously if you don’t have that point, which is the most critical point in my opinion, as far as the four points of pressure, you’re going to have some issues.”

McFadden fumbled 23 times in his three years at Arkansas, losing 9. The 23 fumbles were the most by one player during that time period in the NCAA.

Other than correcting the position of his elbow on carries and failing to run down field 40 yards after a play in practice, McFadden has been impressing his peers. The Little Rock product has even been taking snaps at quarterback at minicamp.

Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee had this to say about McFadden’s field presence at Oakland this weekend:

Yes, watching linebackers attempt to cover Darren McFadden was funny at times. I’m looking forward to a potential McFadden vs. Thomas Howard matchup in practice.

  1. Brandon, thanks for the links. The Raiders have one of the worst websites when it comes to information on the players. Most of their stories are devoted to the Raiderettes. It’s easy to keep up with Felix because www.DallasCowboys.com is one of the best NFL websites and they constantly have new stuff on the players including video, articles, and talk shows. I haven’t found anything like that on DMAC.

  2. I’d have to agree with you, borntobe. The Cowboys have a very dynamic website and are very proud to provide information on Felix Jones. For those who haven’t ventured to the Cowboy website, go there also to click on the virtual tour of the new Texas Stadium. That A&M matchup for the next ten years is going to infuse some real energy from that part of the country into Razorback recruiting by playing the game in a venue that every other stadium in the NFL will pale in comparison to.

  3. i agree ua87, palying a quality program like a&m in a new state of the art facility will only enhance recruiting in texas. is this a 10 year gig? i was thinking it was only 5.
