Patrick BeverleyLast week, we alerted you of Beverley’s peculiar status messages on his Facebook page and rumors of his possible departure from the University of Arkansas. We also spoke with Beverley last Friday, but he would not comment or deny that he was leaving the Razorbacks.

Brett McMurphy with TBO.com reports today that Beverley wanted to transfer to USF, where former Hogs head coach Stan Heath now coaches. However, after some advice from his mother, Lisa Beverley, the sophomore guard has decided to stay at the UA next season, reports McMurphy.

Here’s an excerpt:

Sources who spoke with Patrick Beverley said he wanted to be a Bull, but his mother wanted him to remain at Arkansas. I guess, mother knows best.

Rumors surfaced this time last year that Beverley was considering a transfer to another school after Heath was fired at Arkansas. That, of course, never happened.

Maybe mom stepped in back then, too.

  1. I love PB and would love for him to be a Razorback for the remainder of his college career, but if, in his heart, he wants a change then get him out of here. I understand he is a young man with lots of growing up to do but I want our Razorbacks to be 100% Razorback. This wishy-washy stuff is not good for a team. Coach Pelfrey needs to have a heart to heart with this young man and make sure he wants to play basketball at the UofA. He will be a leader on next years squad and he needs to take on that responsibility and show these youngsters what being a Razorback is all about. Not sit and talk about being a USF Bull. PFFFT!
And secondly, these players are embassadors for the University of Arkansas and their web activities should be monitored. Suggesting things on Myspace and Facebook can be detrimental to the team and the university.
Not a very responsible move on Patricks part.

  2. Beverley transferring to USF would be a huge mistake and MOM does know best. Stan Heath is a nice guy, but will never get the full potential from his players or team. John Pelphrey will turn Bev into a super star, provided he is willing to be coached and gets his “game” [back] on. Regardless, no player is bigger or more important than the program.

  3. I agree dwp, no player is bigger than the program. It is a little disheartening to hear that he doesn’t truly want to be here. It’s also upsetting that this is the second year in a row that he has caused a buzz due to rumors of his leaving. Beverley is a good player, but I believe we would do better with players who aren’t quite as talented but whose hearts are fully in it. What happened to that Patrick Beverley who, as a freshman, played his heart out for his Razorback team?
