Bye-bye Beverley?
I’ve been out at the Real Deal on the Hill the last couple of days checking out the AAU action and doing a few stories for the Times. I bumped into UA sophomore guard Patrick Beverley Friday night after a Real Deal game involving the Arkansas Hawks. He was there as a spectator. As was UA senior Vincent Hunter.
In case you haven’t heard, there’s been some Internet chatter about Beverley and the idea that he may leave the University of Arkansas. Earlier this week on Beverley’s Facebook page, the Chicago native reportedly put “I’m leaving,” in the status section of his social networking profile. This came after several eyebrow-raising updates on his personal page about making a “tough decision.”
Whether that means he’s contemplating a trip to McDonald’s or quitting the UA basketball program, that’s up to interpretation.
Normally it’s not a good idea to go with Internet innuendo, but I stopped Beverley Friday night to ask if he was in fact transferring or leaving the program.
When given the opportunity to shoot down the rumor, he did not respond. Beverley said he wouldn’t comment.
Makes you wonder why he didn’t shoot the rumor down when he had the chance. Then again, maybe this will all blow over soon and it’s really not be a big deal.
Either way, the next few weeks should be interesting.

I can’t imagine that Patrick thinks he can better himself by transferring. I doubt that Patrick really feels that he’s NBA ready or that the NBA is a realistic probability at this stage of Patrick’s basketball future.
That being said, if Patrick wishes to leave, for whatever reason, I wish him nothing but the best.
However, I’m hoping the Arkansas Razorbacks are your future for another year, Patrick! Good luck, regardless.
I can’t imagine why Beverly, with his potential for greatness, would walk away from an Arkansas team, loaded with potential.
I hope Bev sticks around for a couple of more years, under coach Pel, and realizes his considerable, yet untapped talent. However, no one is bigger or more important than the program.
I fail to see how Patrick Beverley would derive any benefit from not playing his junior year with the Razorbacks. In fact, I think he stands to short change himself with only one year’s exposure to John Pelphrey’s example both on and off the court.
