McFadden Mania is really starting to rev up, and here are a few developments to keep you up to date:

The Associated Press had a pretty lengthy feature on McFadden earlier today that follows in the foot steps of the New York Daily News story from March 30. Additionally, USA Today posted a similar story online today.

What strikes some as controversial and newsworthy is a quote from McFadden’s mother, Mini Muhammad, in the AP article.

As Muhammad has revealed before, she talks about her days of using crack in a back room of her home. That much has been known for quite a while. But later on in the article she delves into why one of her 12 sons is locked up in jail because of his drug distribution days.

She’s broken her own addiction she says, but here’s where Muhammad steps a little too close to the smeared line between what is right and what is wrong. Here are her feelings when it comes to one of her sons dealing drugs:

“I’m not condoning it, but if you’re going to do something and it’s wrong, do it good,” she says with a chuckle. “They did. They took care of their sisters and brothers. That’s how we were able to get a lot of stuff.”

I don’t know how that will hurt her son, Darren, as the draft approaches on April 26, but it certainly can’t help. Online, NFL fans are showing concern over her comments and how they reflect on Darren.

It should be mentioned that the AP article states Darren’s agent, Mike Conley Sr., was there during the interview.

Muhammad wants the agent around when she’s talking about her son, but Conley is mostly an observer as the running back’s talkative mother tells the family’s story.

“Mini tells you like it is,” Conley says. “There’s no scripts, no censoring.”

  1. I don’t think he will ever live up to it, but I guess we will wait and see.
