Hansbrough transfer to UA possible

I know what you’re thinking and, no, UNC center Tyler Hansbrough is not foregoing the NBA to transfer to the University of Arkansas. However, a report surfaced today that his brother, Ben Hansbrough, may be interested in transferring to become a Razorback.

Ben, a 6-foot-3 guard, asked and was granted his release from the Mississippi State program yesterday. His father, Gene, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, said his son would be interested in pursuing a scholarship at Missouri, Purdue, Florida, Arkansas, Butler or Notre Dame.

“Ben loves Missouri,” Gene Hansbrough said. “I think he wants to play in a competitive program and be able to excel as a team. It depends on what opportunities present itself in Missouri and even outside of Missouri.”

“He doesn’t have his mind made up about anything except that he doesn’t want to play at Mississippi State next year.”

What’s with MSU guards leaving Starkville and showing interest in Fayetteville? Gary Ervin transferred to the UA in 2005 after two seasons with Rick Stansbury’s club.

No clue if Stansbury or MSU would allow Hansbrough to transfer to another school in the SEC like he did with Ervin. Ervin’s transfer to Arkansas was, to put it lightly, not that big of a deal to Stansbury.

Hansbrough started 28 games as a Bulldog this year and averaged 10.5 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The sophomore would have to sit out one year before becoming eligible to finish his final two years of eligibility at a Division I school.

  1. Remember the old saying, “Never take what your competition gives you.” From what I could tell, he was a pretty good player, so I’d be surprised if MSU lets him transfer within the league. I hope he finds a place he fits in and does well.

  2. […] Which leads to another sign the relationship between Richardson and the UA is on the mend. Guard Ben Hansbrough, UNC Tarheel Tyler Hansbrough’s little brother, has been granted his release from Mississippi […]

  3. I’m sorry but life is too short, and whether you are Tyler H. or anyone else (Garry Irvin?) if you aren’t happy, “make a change”. Sometimes, “the first time is not the time at all”. And, I do understand that this decision is his/her goal in life. But, I do want to enjoy, this entertainment, But, the fact that this or any other person has to, “delay” their life to participate in sports, is not acceptable!!! Let Tyler and all student athletes that aren’t happy with
their University transfer. If they are accepted by the University they applied to they will have to be academically eligible to transfer.

That is what is required by the persons who have contibuted to the education of these transferes, not the dissipointment of those who have not!!!

Nothing is free in life including “ENTERTAINMENT”.

If Tyler comes to Arkansas, it will be on the condition that he represent the U of Arkansas in a professional and ethical manner at all times. Any thing else is not acceptable.
