Petrino hits on opening practice, how he felt a little nervous when he saw how fast Darren McFadden and Felix Jones were during Pro Day, and the competition at quarterback. And remember, practices open up Thursday and you’re invited to attend at 4 p.m.
Enjoy.

Brandon, in your article “Extra Points: Enjoy Open Practice as Long as You Can”, you touch on a huge issue that our Razorback fans on various message boards and our Arkansas Razorback Athletic Department need to understand!
Many sports message board posters are ignorant, many posters are kids, some posters are malicious, some posters are not Razorbacks, and some posters just enjoy stirrin’ ship. This reality is compounded by the fact that some people believe way too much that they read on sports message boards.
Our head football coach, our head basketball coach and our very astute athletic director need to understand the potential positives, and huge potential negatives of the internet in enhancing, or damaging, our Razorback athletic program and their job security. A real smart athletic director such as ours should have a staff of student employees who will work the web daily, gathering information for the coaches and AD, and dispensing information.
I believe the Arkansas Razorback Athletic Department is currently way behind in understanding, managing and harvesting the power of the internet!
arkie,
I have a little trouble understanding your point of view. I agree to a point that there are some pretty “off” folks that can get on these boards, sometimes. I think all-in-all, it can be a healthy debate as long as the discussion doesn’t go too far off the reservation.
If by “dispensing information,” you think that athletic officials can censor what student athletes read, that’s almost like living in a dream world. They’re going to see it, if they elect to do so.
If you think that the Athletic Department is “currently way behind” in knowing how to utilize the internet, then I’m still a little confused. Hogwired.com is about as modern a website as any school’s athletic program has.

Man am I impressed with the accounts of the first spring practice. In years past, it seems that conditioning really didn’t get the attention it sorely needed. Petrino’s practices are ALL about conditioning!!
