Fairchild arrested, suspended indefinitely

Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild was arrested by Fayetteville police Monday and charged with third degree battery and second degree false imprisonment. He was later suspended from the UA football team Tuesday by head coach Bobby Petrino. Freddie Fairchild

The 21-year-old, soon-to-be junior was booked in the Washington County Jail at 6:11 p.m. and was released in the early morning hours Tuesday. Both charges are misdemeanors.

The victim, said to be Fairchild's girlfriend in a police report, told police that Fairchild physically attacked her causing injuries to her head, face, arms, legs and pelvis, according to an arrest report. She said after the attack he did not allow her to leave the house for several hours.counter stats

Petrino had this to say via a news release:

“Freddie Fairchild has been suspended from our football team pending a review of a violation of team rules,” Petrino said. “He will not be allowed to participate in any team activities during the suspension. We will allow the legal process to take its course on this matter and Freddie will be provided the appropriate support during this time. The Razorback Football program is committed to a high standard of conduct and our student-athletes are expected to adhere to that standard on and off the field.”

Fairchild is scheduled to appear in court April 23, which is three days before the Hogs' annual Red-White spring scrimmage.

The Little Rock native was the Hogs' third-leading tackler last season with 92 stops. He played in all 13 of Arkansas' games and started in 11.

  1. It will be interesting to see what policies Petrino and staff put in place to deal with issues like these.

  2. A new day in Arkansas! Set the bar high... if he did his, send him packing! Arkansas needs men playing football - and men don't beat their partners!

  3. I have to agree, send him packing.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a trend among atheletes, especially football players. I'm a Steelers fan as well and people in Pittsburgh are up at arms about the two players involved in assault arrests recently. The news is littered with such reports on a regular basis. Very sad.
