Hogs put on their dancing shoes

Despite falling 66-57 to Georgia in the finals of the SEC Basketball Tournament, the Arkansas Razorbacks are going to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season and the first under head coach John Pelphrey.

The Hogs are a No. 9 seed in the East Regional at Raleigh, N.C. and play No. 8 seed Indiana on Friday with a game time to be announced later.

Unfortunately, the Razorbacks are bracketed against No. 1 overall seed North Carolina, which plays the winner of Tuesday’s Mount St. Mary’s-Coppin State play-in game.

  1. I guess it all depends on which team shows up at the big dance. Play like they did against Vanderbilt and Tenn. and the Hogs could not only get past Indiana, but also make life extremely miserable for NC. Play like they did against Georgia and like they did for most of the season on the road and we’ll be one and done again this year.

Pelphrey must go to Sam’s Club to get his supply of Malox to cope with coaching this group.

  2. Does anyone else feel that the Hogs got a lower seed than they deserved? Their Midwest Regional placement didn’t really make much sense either, when the South Regional is being held in Little Rock this year, with Texas sitting at the #2. Had the Razorbacks been given the #7 seed and placed in the South Regional, then there would be a potential 2nd Round match up with the Longhorns that would definitely draw a lot of attention and fanfare between both states. I know the loss to Appalachian State was a pretty bad mark on this season’s resumé. However, the team’s record against ranked opponents & their strong play in the SEC Tourney should have at least secured them of a #7 seed. Miami (FL) got a 7th, and that team is not near as good the Razorbacks this year. USC was handed a #6 seed and they lost to Mercer (lower tier team with a bad record) and didn’t have strong games against ranked opponents…

  3. They will be one and done! The Hogs played with no heart, no passion, no desire at all - typical for this group. Georgia, despite being “dog tired” WANTED this game more than the Hogs. This group has wanted very little this year. Both the players and the coaching staff are to blame for this shameful performance today. We are the laughing stock of the basketball world.

  4. hognaustin,

I think you’ve crossed a line here. You’re blaming the coaching staff? Really? When did Pelphrey take free throws during a game? When did Rob Evans choose to take a three rather than work the ball inside? When did Tom Ostrom take on the height of Stephen Hill and fail to exert a presence inside? You better take a step back. The coaches DON’T play the game. They give instruction. They motivate. But, they don’t win or lose games. There’s never been a “field general” on this squad.

If we were three to four years into Pelphrey and staff’s tenure, you MIGHT have a reasonably accurate observation. And how are we a “laughing stock?” There are TWENTY EIGHT other teams that are seeded HIGHER than the Hogs in the big dance. If we’re “the laughing stock,” what does that make them?

Austin is part of your blog name. If you’re even partly proud to be in the front yard of the Longhorns, that tells me all that I need to know about you.
