Razorbacks advance in Atlanta

The Arkansas Razorbacks advanced to the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament Thursday in front of a crowd of 18,200 at the Georgia Dome by defeating Vanderbilt, 81-75, for the fifth consecutive time.

The Hogs hit 12 of 14 free throws in the final 1:35 to lock the contest up.

The Razorbacks face Tennessee, which is making its first appearance in the SEC semifinals in 17 seasons, at noon (CST.).

Gary Ervin and Darian Townes led Arkansas with 18 points each, while Charles Thomas scored 13 and Stefan Welsh and Patrick Beverley each had 11.

The Razorbacks did a fine job of holding SEC Player of the Year Shan Foster to just 14 points. He hit just 4 of 10 shots and did not hit his first basket until 7:38 left in the first half.

The Vols held off a determined South Carolina squad with a late-game 3-pointer by guard Chris Lofton in an 89-87 quarterfinal victory.

The victory should lock up a NCAA Tournament bid for the Razorbacks. Tennessee defeated the Razorbacks, 93-71, in their regular-season meeting at Knoxville, Tenn. on Feb. 13.
