Richardson to ASU now unlikely

Former Arkansas basketball coach Nolan Richardson says the head coaching job at Arkansas State is not the right fit for him.

Richardson had initially expressed interest in the job after it was vacated by Dickey Nutt in February.

  1. the reason it didnot fix was ASU would not agree to his son being the head coach after Nolan retired. I guess it the same son that lost his job at middle Tenn state for having a gun on campus. I wouldn’t want him either. Good job ASU. now get john brady from LSU

  2. NOTHING in college basketball coaching is a fit for Nolan anymore. Granted, the NBA lures a lot of underclassmen. But these days, school presidents and boards demand more from a coach in terms of having a roll in academics with their student-athletes. That’s what truly does not fit Richardson. I lived in Louisville, KY for a short time a few years after graduation from the UA. Denny Crum put the Louisville Cardinals on the map of college basketball and would eventually be asked to leave due to his detached view of academics and the need to be involved.

  3. ASU aspires to be the second coming of the Arkansas Razorbacks, but in ten years ASU may aspire to be the second coming of UALR or UCA. Nolan flattered ASU by his interest in their job, but made a sound decision by declining their job opprtunity. A 66 year old Arkansas Razorback coaching legend, Nolan shouldn’t have to tote that ASU barge upstream without a paddle.

If a good coaching opportunity arises for Nolan, he’ll take it and do a great job. If not, Nolan’s still an Arkansas Razorback coaching legend, an historic figure in the battle for black achievement in America and, by most of us Arkies, a valued and loved Arkansas resident of distinction.
