Richardson interested in Arkansas State opening

It’s been reported since late Tuesday, but former Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson actually is interested in the Arkansas State coaching position vacated by Dickey Nutt.

Nolan RichardsonIn an article in today’s Democrat-Gazette, Richardson continued to express interest in the position.

“I feel like I’ve been taking a six-year vacation so it’s time to go back to work,” Richardson said.

Oklahoma State assistant James Dickey is also a candidate for the position. Dickey coached at Central Arkansas, Harding University and Harding Academy before taking the head coaching job at Texas Tech from 1991 to 2000.

If Richardson was to be hired by ASU — and that’s a big ‘if’ — how does that affect the newly rekindled interest by the University of Arkansas to honor Richardson and the 1994 team next season? ThatArkansas State certainly would throw another kink in the UA-Richardson drama knot, wouldn’t it?

The words Arkansas State and Jonesboro are/were nearly forbidden in the UA athletics department. Of all the schools, Richardson might end up as coach at the UA’s least favorite.

Yes, stAte is even less popular than Texas, Razorback fans.

  1. When is the UofA going to grow up and stop treating ASU like a horrible step child? I would like to see the Basketball programs be the for runner and schedule a game with each other. lets start there. If it is a great success then lets start in other sports.

I would much rather see ALL of the athletes in the state of Arkansas stay in the state then go to any rival conference school, and i think that more would stay if they were able to get over their petty differences and play each other.
