Are you ready for some football?

The UA announced today that the Arkansas Red-White spring football game will be held Saturday, April 26. What’s most pleasing to see is that the “game” will be an actual, um, game.

Gone will be touch football, situation drills and being bored to the point of tears.

Boy, I tell you what: Thank you, Bobby Petrino.

Here’s a portion of what the UA released today:

Unlike previous spring finales, Arkansas will stage a true game with only two minor adjustments.

ZING!

The spring game will resemble a regular season game in every way with the exception that punts, kickoffs and placement kicks will not be run at full speed or with contact. In addition, the game clock will run continuously in the second half.

Petrino will split the Razorbacks into two separate teams with the starters making up one squad and the second and third teams making up the other squad.

Nice. That sounds like something fans would like to attend and see — finally.

It’s also of note that the UA moved the scrimmage to later in the month as not to conflict with the Arkansas Derby in Oaklawn. Maybe that means 60,000 might show up to see Petrino’s new offense? That’d be something to see.

The family-friendly RazorFest, which has preluded the game in the past, will also be making a return. For more on all this, go here.

  1. This Petrino dude is the real deal and I truly believe that he will take a major liking to NW Arkansas, if he hasn’t already. There’s a new sheriff in town hog fans. Show your support.

Ps. Hey NCAA - Ryan Mallett needs to be eligible next year. If you really want to make someone ineligible, start with some of these college coaches who recruit these kids and then bail for a pot of gold.

  2. Funny thing is, Nutt went from upper half tier of pay to lower half. What goes around, comes around and by the looks of the recruit profiles of kids coming to Fayetteville, he lost big in recruiting battles with his former employer.

  3. i would love to see this!! I might even cancel my vacation for the spring game. So far BP has done a very nice job. And no more HDN references please.

  4. I agree with “the101, and many of you have read some of my comments, let’s back the young men/women who have come to the University of Arkansas to represent the Hog Nation, let’s be of one State, one Name, The Razorbacks, and one Call, WhoooPigSooie.

    Coach Petrino and staff:

Welcome to The University of Arkansas.

    We’re behind you 100 percent!!
