Bringing the energy

Patrick Beverley is gaining a reputation as the hardest working man in the SEC.

Pound-for-pound, the 6-1 guard is the best rebounder in the league. He’s one of four players in the SEC averaging a double-double in league play with 11.1 ppg and 10.7 rpg, and he is the only player under 6-8 managing to do that.

“Patrick doesn’t have to score to help his team,” Arkansas coach John Pelphrey said. “We have a need at rebounding, and he’s filling it. Really, some of our big guys should be a little ashamed that he’s outrebounding them.”

Of course, if it weren’t for the Arkansas’ big men blocking out, there wouldn’t be as many long rebounds for Beverley to gather.

However, Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said nothing should be taken away from Beverley.

“Patrick Beverley scares me because I know how much energy he is going to bring to the game,” Kennedy said. “What he’s doing rebounding is fantastic.

“It’s like I tell our guys, as a rebounder you can’t be selective. You have to go after every one. Beverley goes after every rebound with abandon. That’s why he gets so many.”
