Adams signs with UA
Joe Adams, the state of Arkansas’ top-rated recruit, signed a letter of intent to play football for the Arkansas Razorbacks Wednesday morning.
The Central Arkansas Christian receiver had originally committed to Southern Cal when Houston Nutt was Arkansas’ head football coach, but the 6-1, 178-pound athlete changed his mind after Bobby Petrino, who is known for his wide-open offense at Louisville, became the Hogs’ head coach after Nutt resigned.
At CAC, Adams played quarterback, running back and receiver during his two-year career and totaled 3,700 all-purpose yards and scored more than 50 touchdowns. As a defensive back, he also made 10 interceptions and made nearly 200 tackles.
Arkansas will have apress conference at 3 p.m. to announce its complete recruiting class.

YEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the turning point. Finally the bleeding has stopped and Coach Petrino is reinforcing the fence around Arkansas. USC was becoming Arkansas West (or Arkansas was becoming USC East, depending on your perspective).
The coach… It’s the COACH!!!
This is a huge coup for Petrino. If we somehow get eligibility for Mallett next season, then watch out SEC.
The credit has to go to our new coach. Nutt always had trouble trying to get our best players to remain in state.
[...] The big prize of the day seems to be Joe Adams, the all-everything receiver from CAC who had orally committed to USC last summer but apparently was swayed by the promise of a legit passing attack from his in-state school. That’s good news on the football merits alone, but it’s also cool to steal one back from the Trojans. [...]
Nutt lost a lot of recruits because they knew he wouldn’t throw the ball. From what I see from a distance (I live in DC now), the Arkansas high schools are running wide open offenses, so the players weren’t built for Nutt’s grinding ground game. Petrino is a much better fit for Arkansas’ in-state recruits.
Now if we can just get a defense.
Too bad we couldn’t get Aaron Boyd, Kye Staley, Kendall Wright, or Aundre Dean. But just the fact that we were in the conversation for so many top recruits says a lot about this coaching staff. Look out for next year.
Looking at ESPN’s Top 150 recruits the three Arkansas high school players listed have all committed to the UofA. Coach Nutt could never keep the top talent in the state “in state”.
Looks like Coach Petrino has the local kids fired up to be a Razorback.
I wonder why Coach Nutt couldn’t keep these kids here? He’s a great RAH RAH coach and an Arkansan, how could he not sell kids on the Hogs, when most of these kids grew up wanting nothing more than to be a Hog.
Oh well, he is the Rebels problem now.
tdbennett:
Why don’t you just slap every player from Ark. the last ten years at the U of A in the face. Man do your home work before you start showing your ignorance. Or are you only one year old. If you are only one year old and a infant even you should remember Darren Mcfadden.
Grow up. Nutt’s not here anymore forget about him (but I guarantee you the players under him won’t, Houston Nutt and family are good people and a class act). Don’t ever forget the great players from the State of Arkansas who played as Razorbacks. No matter which coach they played for.
Oh and tdbennett:
Houston Nutt recruited all three of these athletes. Two were committed under Nutt not Petrino. But they are Arkansas bred and Hog fed. Think about this: Where would Damian Williams been if he had stayed at the U of A instead of being self centered and not a team player??? When Marcus was injured just think of how he could have helped the Razorbacks.
You must be from Springdale.
I agree with borntobehogwild94,
I believe we will maximize (and keep) the in-state talent simply by running an offense that is more in line with what most talented high schools are doing around the state. High school offenses have changed and our flagship school had not — it is nice to have some continuity now and I bet we will see the benefits.
coloradohogfan,
Houston needs you, Oxford is a nice place, get to packin! True hog fans don’t run down each other they might disagree but only redneck rebels act like you!
gotta agree with 1509, you are starting to sound like ua65 colorado, cool down bro Nutt is gone and that is a good thing. If you dont think so the rebs will take your money for season tickets.
Programs are better recruiters than coaches. Kids will come to Arkansas because of the program that they believe Petrino wil have. If they’re throwers and catchers then they will come. If they’re strictly runners then Ole Miss might be a good option. Being a Razorback still should be the biggest recruiting tool for any kid in Arkansas. Glad to see Ole Miss only got two Arkansas kids, but that was two too many.
The two Arkansas players that Ole Miss signed weren’t even offered scholarships by UA. According to the papers, every in-state player that UA offered a scholarship signed with UA. Also, I read a quote that every player that Petrino had an in-home visit with, signed with him.
coloradohogfan,
Of course Coach Nutt got SOME of the top recruits from in-state, but rarely did he get ALL of the top recruits. No disrespect to any kid from Arkansas, no matter where he chose to go to school. I didn’t mean for it to sound all inclusive. And actually for you to take sound like you don’t have much sense. No one with any knowledge thinks Coach Nutt let ALL the state’s talent get away, but he let more leave the state than he should have.
and thanks to the rest, I read here often but never had posted until now
coloradohogfan,
you need to chill and I don’t live in Springdale, I live in Little Rock and grew up in Rogers, went to the Uof A, met my wife in Fayetteville, love the Hogs. I just wondered to some educated folks why Coach Nutt let SOME, not all, of our top high school talent leave the state, and some he didn’t even recruit real hard. But then I get your replies. Stop reading ESPN, they got you thinking every1 is out to get the Razorbacks.
Everyone:
I went to school in Fayettville also. And am as much a Hogfan as anyone. I have had season tickets to Fay. and LR since 1975, and have contributed generously to the Razorback foundation. My mesage to tdbennett was understood by tdbennett. I did get carried away as I can tell by the responses about the past. Guys, the UofA including Petrino can not recruit everyone in this state. There are only so many scholarship’s. Some ARE going to get away. My point was that I felt that tdbennett had shown little respect for the many quality athletes and walk ons that had given their all for the Hog Nation whether for HN, or any other coach. I agree let the past be the past. Springdale will always be Springdale, ten miles from Fayettevill.
