Report: McFadden to Dallas as No. 1 pick possible
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is up to his old tricks again. A report by Bella Vista’s own — oh, and ESPN reporter — Chris Mortensen on ESPN Radio on Saturday and Sunday says that Jones may be interested in trading up his first-round picks at the No. 22 and No. 28 slots to nab former Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden in the NFL Draft.
Huh?
Mort’s report comes off the heels of Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland saying, “We’re open for business,” when asked about the team’s handling of the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft slated to start April 26.
“The No. 1 pick is no different from the 22nd pick. You’ve got to make the right selection,” Ireland said, according to an article in the Jan. 24 edition of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “You just can’t miss on it. We’re going to do everything in our power to make the right choices, whether it be to take the pick or move down. We’ll listen to all offers.”
Wait… did he just say “the 22nd pick?” Was that a slip? Is Jerry already wheelin’ and dealin’ with the Tuna (Bill Parcells) in Miami to work something out for some D-Mac draft drama? Could the former Hog really go No. 1 overall?
ProFootballTalk.com has the juicy details:
Per Mort, any such deal would have to include the rights to Cowboys running back Marion Barber, who is slated to be a restricted free agent. To make it happen, the Cowboys would have to work out a sign-and-trade deal before Barber gets a chance to ink an offer sheet that would force the Cowboys to match the terms or let him go in exchange for compensation.
Maybe the exodus of Dallas assistants and Parcells to Miami has planted the seed of the draft switch-a-roo.
What think you? Do you see Jones, an avid Arkansas alumni, working out a deal with the Fins to land the Razorbacks’ all-time leading rusher?
Dallas Morning News columnist Kevin Sherrington thinks Jerry should and could make a run at McFadden.
Stay tuned.

This can’t happen. I would have to root for the Cowboys
I feel the same way, Terry. I would be a Cowboy fan. (Did I just say that?)
