Tigers, Longhorns and Rebels…oh my!

Arkansas released its 2008 football schedule today — and, well,  to put it mildly — it’s not for the faint of heart. There is a trip to Texas, home dates against Florida and LSU and one intriguing nonconference matchup with Tulsa. Then there is the Oct 25 game against Ole Miss — one that will draw considerable interest in these parts because former Hogs coach Houston Nutt makes his return to Fayetteville.

The fans are probably excited. But Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino will have his hands full in his inaugural season in Fayetteville:

Sat, Aug 30 Western Illinois Fayetteville, Ark. TBA

  1. Wow. The “scheduling gods” took a major dump on us. Are you kidding me? Who’s in charge here? That has to be one of the most difficult schedules in the country.

Nonetheless, with Petrino, the Razorbacks will still be okay. Hehe.. a 7-5 record with THAT schedule should be BCS material.

Regardless, in ‘09……… look out. GO HOGS!

  2. What’s wrong with a difficult schedule?? Isn’t this the kind of national respect we’ve yearned for? I mean c’mon really. The 2007 season schedule was a joke. We might have well scheduled some high school teams. This is better, A LOT BETTER. Don’t think for one instant that this will not be a big help to recruiting, especially those sitting on the fence between schools. How powerful is it for Petrino to go into a kid’s home in front of him and his parents and pull out a schedule of teams like this? Who wouldn’t want to come to Arkansas to play football now??

  3. [...] The football schedule for next year is out and it looks a little, well, challenging. I hope Bobby Petrino knew about this before signing [...]

  4. With what we have comming back we would have a hard time getting to .500 on last years schedule, but then again we did have a hard time last year. The word from those in the know stated that a coach or two turned down the Arkansas job due to the fact that any coach will be doing good to win 5 games in 08. This is not a reloading, this is not a rebuilding, this is a retooling. The WR’s can’t catch a cold, the RB’s are unproven, and most of the starters are gone. I give coach Petrino all the credit in the world to come up with a staff like he has, as you notice some big time coaches are just trying to get a warm body to fill a opening. It will take a year or two to get whree we should be, but this group can get it done.

    Go Hogs

  5. 7-5 6-6 i thought that is why everyone wanted HN gone. New coach lower standards. What 5 or 6 teams should beat us?

  6. Crosby Tuck and Ben Cleveland can catch and it is Petrino job to get one or two more

  7. Texas, Bama, Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss,
South Carolina, Mississippi State, and LSU.
There are the six losses….plus three more.
A 3-9 season is a very strong possibility. Get ready for
    it.

  8. HN’s first year was after 2 losing seasons and no highly regarded talent and we had a pretty good season. Now we get a new coach and every team in the SEC is a better team. All I am saying is no one would be making excuses for our past coach so don’t make any for our new coach. Razorback fans want and expect an SEC title soon. If we don’t then why did we change coachs. HN got us close now it is Petrino job to take us there and win.

  9. Give Petrino three years and Arkansas will be competing for an SEC title. Give him four years and the Razorbacks will be in the hunt for a national title. He is smart enough to hang around and the fans need to be smart enough to stay with this guy. GO HOGS!

  10. THE GOOD THING, IS MOST OF THE TOUGH GAMES ARE AT HOME-PETRINO HAS TO GET PLAYERS TO FIT HIS OFFENSE-WE’LL BE FINE AND WE MAY SURPRISE A FEW PEOPLE.I DO THINK ONE REASON HN LEFT, WAS HE KNEW DMAC AND JONES WERE LEAVING AND HE WOULD BE TOAST IN 08.
    GO HOGS BEAT TEXAS!!!!!

  11. I agree with that angle on Houston leaving. He got out at about the right time. But we have a better coach apparently with some offensive prowess. I see our passing game can only be better next year and that leaves us a little room for a questionable run game that I’ll put my faith in the coaches to make competetive. Our defense should be a bit better.. Correct me if I’m wrong. Go Hogs!
