McFadden still eligible, UA says
As of right now, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden is still eligible to play in the Jan. 1 Cotton Bowl against Missouri.
However, in a statement issued by the university, UA officials said they are still looking into the matter:
“Earlier this week, media reports suggested that potentially improper steps were taken to secure a vehicle for an Arkansas student-athlete. The University immediately initiated a review of the matter. Although the television station that reported the story has publicly apologized for its initial report, the University has continued to vigorously review the matter. The University is appreciative of the cooperation of those who have been involved in the review process. While it would not be appropriate to comment specifically regarding the review at this time, it should be noted that the student-athlete has not been ruled ineligible. We will continue to work judiciously to review this matter.”
The controversy started when KARK-TV in Little Rock reported that McFadden had been seen at a Fayetteville car dealership purchasing a Cadillac Escalade. Sports agent and former Razorbacks track star Mike Conley was reported to have been with McFadden, but the television station has since apologized for including Conley’s name in the initial report.

As a true fan and supporter of the Razorback football program for 30+ years, I am calling for a 24 hr blackout of all news reports by all Arkansas media outlets prior to their release. Maybe with this self-imposed deadline, the media can report the correct info by confirming all necessary information. The program is being hurt, not by the effort on the field or on the sideline but by the so called fans and media reporters. It is time to put anger aside and do what is best for the program and all its participants. Please get it right the first time. Quit spreading hateful rumors. You not only hurt the program today, you make it harder to recruit top flite SEC football players to a program with great facilities and history but a fan and media base that just doesn’t get it. Remember it is not about us. It is about the Razorbacks!
Very well said truehoginfla. This kind of nonsense has tormented and villified our football program and a lot of honorable men for the last two seasons. Its been mostly done anonomously by people who have an exaggerated opinion of themselves and their knowledge of the game.
I believe the first step to correcting this type of thing would be to elimenate the word ’sources’. When people are allowed to start ’stories’, (rumors) without identifying themselves, anyone can say anything without having to be concerned about accountablity.
Cudos to the Razorback coaches and players for being able to focus and perform despite the efforts to distract and divide them by people who lack both class and maturity.
Media do not care whom they damage. They only care about the story. Retraction on page 11. And they wonder why they aren’t invited into the locker rooms and aren’t allowed to talk to players.
Big Question to KARK? Who was the source? Why?
