Charity stripe not so charitable
After Arkansas lost to Appalachian State 74-67 last Saturday, the Razorbacks’ problems at the free-throw line were exposed. Arkansas made only 11 of the 21 foul shots it attempted against the Mountaineers.
And this year the Razorbacks are making only 68 percent of their free throws after converting 70 percent of them last year. The player who has experienced the biggest dropoff at the line?
Senior forward Charles Thomas, who made 78 percent of his free throws last year and is now converting only 56 percent.
“It’s kind of frustrating when you work on it in practice every single day,” said Arkansas guard Sonny Weems, who is shooting 77 percent at the line. “It’s going to get better. We had a couple of bad games where we had bad percentages at the free-throw line. But we will bounce back.”
Razorbacks center Darian Townes agreed.
“It happens,” Townes said of the struggles. “Some nights, you’re on. Some nights, you’re off. It’s just all about being confident when you go to the line.”
