Updated: Interesting development with Arkansas and Tuberville
I was scouring the Web for flights going to and from Auburn, Ala. And I stumbled upon this one, which left Tunica, Miss., flew to Rogers, went on to Auburn and came back to Tunica today. It appears that this flight may have picked up Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who was in Arkansas hunting Thursday.
The plane is registered to David Griffin of West Helena. Griffin is a cotton farmer who was involved with trying to lure Tuberville to Arkansas ten years ago, when the Razorbacks hired former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt.
Update: Tuberville was on that airplane and a source confirmed he was in Stuttgart Thursday.

I’m not sure how you track private flights, but here is what I know from a VERY REIABLE SOURCE… Tubberville is in Arkansas and duck hunting with Girffin, Jim Lindsey, and another unidentified man. The announcement will come on Saturday that Tommy Tubberville will become the next Razorback Head Coach… Buyout - no doubt!
Hey ,Tubberville how long have you been a duck hunter in Stuggart (duck hunters capital of the world)? I have a reason to ask this question?

I won’t believe anything until I see a press conference and then wait another 48 hours to make sure no one has changed their mind.
I’m sure Tuberville (spelled with only one B) comes to Arkansas all the time to hunt quail with the Razorback Board of Trustees. Just an innocent hunting trip.
Definitely means he’s testing the waters, but doesn’t mean he’ll take the job. If he is going to leave Auburn, this is the time to do it though — after beating Alabama for the 6th straight time and Nick Saban snatching up all the top recruits in Alabama.
My deepest apologies to the duck hunting capital of the world. I meant to say duck hunting, not quail (although I prefer quail hunting). GO HOGS!!
Go LSU, beat Tenn !!
Go Sooners, beat Missouri !!
McFadden for the Heisman !!!!
As I said yesterday, until the ink with Tuberville’s signature is dry on the contract extension with Auburn, believe he is in negotiation to be the new head coach. There’s plenty of money for the buyout. Let’s hope a lot of ducks are bagged and a new head coach as well on this hunting trip.
Reports from Arkansas shock Tuberville

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was sitting on a deer stand in rural Arkansas early this morning. Cell phones, of course, work even in deer stands if they’re not too far out in the sticks.
Tuberville, who will be back in Auburn around lunchtime today, said he was incredulous when he learned after emerging from the woods Thursday night of the reports flooding out of Arkansas that he was on the verge of agreeing to become the Razorbacks’ coach.
Tuberville didn’t want to be quoted, but he had some strong words for those responsible for those reports. Neither he nor his agent, Jimmy Sexton, Tuberville said, has had any contact at all with Arkansas officials about the job vacated by Houston Nutt.
By the way, he and assistants Eddie Gran and Steve Ensminger were planning to hunt ducks but ended up hunting deer. Gran bagged a deer. The other two have struck out so far.

I guess it was beneath you to quote the source of that information?
It was me on the al.com tiger forums last night. Complete with both exact links you provided in this story.
Bad form, not crediting your sources.
USE CAUTION
smpte:
Believe it or not, I didn’t go to the al.com Tiger forums. I got a tip and acted upon it. But if you want credit, it’s all yours.
“That’s why David will run the offense and he’ll do the play calling. He’s been told there’s no straps, there’s no chains on him.
My idea of a good offense is to be balanced, to be able to run and throw and not be predictable. Those are the teams that have given me the most fits as a defensive coordinator for 27 years….. At the same time, it goes back to being balanced and being entertained.
“I’m a Florida State grad and the greatest show in town on Saturday night in Tallahassee, Fla., was seeing that ball in the air about 50 times and playing good, fast, hard-nosed defense. What I would want to be is entertained. I want to be exciting, to be explosive, but hire people and get people in here that do what they’ve been asked to do.”

footnote: with reggie’s connections [for a staff] on both the college and professional levels, this dude could be an awesome head coach, in my opinion. .
From a text message I just received from a friend that works at CSTV.com
-Tuberville will be named the coach.
-The deal could be as large as 10 years and $37 million.
-Jerry Jones is going to personally pay the Auburn buyout.
-Jerry Jones is going to personally put a substantial amount of money towards luring the best assistant coaches that can be assembled.
Not sure if any of this is true, but this guy was dead-on during the basketball coaching search.
“To get Tuberville, who is earning a reported $2.6 million at Auburn this season, Arkansas will have to pay him double the salary it was paying Nutt. That’s somewhere in the neighborhood of $3 million a year. His assistants won’t come cheap either.
And it doesn’t stop there. Tuberville and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, are shrewd businessmen. Nearly every year, they put Auburn through the same renegotiation song and dance the institution is facing at the moment.
You see, whether Tuberville is serious about coming to Arkansas or not, Sexton can use his name being bandied about in the media as leverage against Auburn, or even LSU if Les Miles does make the move to Michigan after today’s SEC Championship game.”

Are you kidding me? Jeff Long, please talk to Mike Leach and Reggie Herring. Do not be an idiot.
I don’t understand why there are some folks who want Leach. Wasn’t the complaint about Nutt that he couldn’t win conference championships and he couldn’t win a national championship and we can never win more than 8 or 9 games a season??
How many Big XII South titles has Leach won? 0
How many Bg XII Championships has Leach won? 0
How many 10 win seasons has Leach had? 0
Never had more than 6 conference wins.
Only had a winning conference record 3 times in 8 seasons.
And this is in the Big XII which I think we can all agree is a weaker conference than the SEC. I don’t know what makes anyone think this guy would be successful at Arkansas.
And can you imagine him trying to implement his offense with the talent we have coming back next year??!! Because that is exactly what he will be dealing with. I might hire the dude as an OC…but I do NOT want him as a head coach.
You have some good points wildhogbrad. Although you also have to consider the location of Texas Tech is in Lubbock, which is in the middle of nowhere. Believe me I’ve driven through there, and Texas Tech is pretty much the only thing in the town worth seeing. This, along with the fact that Texas Tech also has to compete with UT and A&M for recruits. If he came to Arkansas just imagine the success he could have getting recruits. Considering all these facts, Leach has done a good job with what he’s had to work with. If we hire Leach I don’t think he will change the offense completely until his future recruits are on the team. Leach would be perfect for Arkansas.
Oh yes…I live in Texas so I hear ya’ razrback91 about lubbock. But I guess the recruiting issue is one that I think can be argued either way. We will still have to pull talent from Texas…and if he can’t recruit Texas kids to go to a Texas school, then I have to wonder what sort of success he would have recruiting them to come to Arkansas. But I guess your point is that Fayetteville would be easier to sell to a Texas recruit than Lubbock would be…and you’re probably right about that. I just still wonder if this is the caliber of coach that can have us in Atlanta more often and have us in BCS bowls. I don’t know…
Thats exactly my point, you hit the nail on the head. Who wants to go to school at Tech when you could go to UT or A&M, which are in way better locatons. The guy must be a good recruiter if he he can get anyone to go to Texas Tech. Think about what he could do at a bigger school in a better location. But you’re right it would be an experiment to see if he could take Arkansas to the next level.
lets give reggie a look.
Tuberville is a Nutt clone.Look at the Auburn,Arkansas game this yr.Get a coach like Leach or Malzaun who at least wants to win National Championship and are not happy with 8 or 9 wins and a bowl game each yr.
In an article I just read on ESPN.com related to the Les Miles/Michigan ordeal, it was reported that Michigan defensive coordinator Ron English interviewed for the Arkansas job yesterday. Just thought I’d pass along the info. for whatever it’s worth.
You people REALLY THINK Gus Malzahn is ready for a top D1 head job? His offense, which he got from Barry Lunney, Sr., couldn’t win conference USA. Come on guys ! He took a pat hand Jarrell Williams left him at the high school level. Give me a break. Gus is a good guy and will be a good head coach some day on the collegiate level…but probably not D1.
is it true that Arkansas is considering bowden from Clemson?
