So much for a quarterback controversy…
On Sunday, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt attempted to extinguish any notion that there would be a quarterback battle this week in practice after Casey Dick was injured Saturday during Arkansas’ 58-10 rout of Florida International.
Dick suffered a concussion and felt pain in his ribs after being blasted by Golden Panthers defensive back Ashlyn Parker in the second quarter. Dick, a junior, left the game for good after completing 4 of 6 pass attempts for 36 yards and throwing one interception. Nathan Emert, a sophomore, came in and threw for 154 yards and one touchdown while finding his receivers on 13 of the 25 passes he attempted.
Nutt, however, said he will stick with Dick for the time being.
“You’re not afraid to put (Nathan) in if (Casey can’t play), but we’re not looking for that to happen,” Nutt told reporters Sunday. “Hopefully, Casey is ready to go. They’ll both get work like they’ve been doing and we’ll play it from there.”

i hopped off the mustain wagon when he originally decommitted, as he and his mother seemed to play the media like a violin at the time. with sanchez in front, and a highly touted 5 star quarterback behind him, it will be interesting to see if mitch ever takes the field at USC.
casey dick was the 13th best dual threat quarterback in the country coming out of high school according to rivals and some other recruiting services. however, for some reason, the kid’s confidence seems to be lacking, which makes me wonder [again] about david lee’s skills as a [passing] quarterback coach.
having gone to the game, i thought emert threw some very good balls on saturday, though he badly missed a couple of wide open receivers.
Yeah, Nathan did miss some open throws, but I think its probably due to not having had alot of playing time with the first team offense. If Houston Nutt would just let him start instead of Casey, we would have a very good quarterback. I’m not so sure its David Lee’s fault though, because Casey was struggling with the same stuff last year. Maybe Nathan will get his chance next year.
I don’t know why Houston has so much confidence in Casey. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m alot more confortable with Nathan throwing. Has anyone noticed how Casey stares down his recievers? I love how Nathan looks off the defender and delivers a quality pass where only our guys can get it. He just throws it so accurately when he’s on the same page as the recievers.
From Eichler to Emert, if any Razorback second team quarterback would ever run for governor, he would win in a landslide.
