Nutt would have kicked the field goal
Les Miles was the talk of the college football world after the gamble he took in the waning seconds of LSU’s 30-24 victory over Auburn last Saturday. Miles elected not to attempt what would have been a game-winning, 37-yard field goal and instead gave quarterback Matt Flynn the green light to throw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demterius Byrd with one second left on the clock.
So, was Miles crazy or gutsy? Houston Nutt, who is known for being a bit risk averse, gave his thoughts on Miles’ decision to roll the dice:
“(My wife) Diana and I were watching that game, and I’m yelling at Diana like, ‘He’s not going to have enough time, the game’s over,’” Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said.
It would have been interesting to watch Nutt in his living room that night. Chances are he was biting his finger nails and running his hands through his hair in those final seconds. He tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve, in case you didn’t know.

Nutt would have called time out because he has no idea how to coach the last 2 minutes of a game.Miles thought he had more time than he did, thats obvious.
A Houston Nutt coached team would have not been in field position to have an opportunity either way.
I think Miles was aware of the time, but I bet he was thinking that Tubs was going to call time out (I know I sure would have). Even though we waited a little longer than I would have liked to do it, I kind of like the idea of putting one in the back of the end zone, and then kicking if we have to (kicking never has been our strong point). The Hogs don’t have the coaching or personnel to consider such options, that’s obvious. Nutt was just jealous.
After three hail marys from midfield, we would have been sacked on fourth down to end the game.
