Roasted Nutt?

The media sure loves to roast some football coaches. This time it’s ESPN.com’s Pat Forde who has basted Houston Nutt before putting him on the spit:

Houston Nutt (13), Arkansas
Year: 10th.

Record: 3-3 this year, with three crushing tumble-from-the-lead losses. Nutt is 70-47 at Arkansas but has now slipped back below .500 in SEC games (38-39).

Breaking point: After dealing with angry players, meddling parents and mutinous fans during the offseason from hell, even going undefeated wouldn’t make it all go away. But a 0-3 SEC start — with South Carolina, Tennessee and LSU to go — could be the deal breaker. Nutt tacitly acknowledged the crisis Sunday by pointing out to reporters that his contract runs ’til 2012.

Sticking point: Who will make the call here? New athletic director Jeff Long, who replaces icon Frank Broyles, or chancellor John White?

Bad stat: Arkansas’ three wins this season (Troy, North Texas, Chattanooga) come against teams with an average Sagarin Rating of 131.

Chances of survival: Dwindling faster than Darren McFadden’s chances of winning the Heisman.

Ouch.

  1. The worst thing about this season is what is happening to Darren McFadden. He is the greatest runner to ever grace this state school. He is the most unselfish player I have seen in a long time. I hope and pray that he will get out of this sty while the getting is good before Nutt and Lee run him head-on into a debilitating injury which could hamper or destroy a great NFL career.

  2. Or…the decision is made easy for them because H will leave on his own…that is what I am thinking will play out.

  3. observation: david lee was, is and will always be a [run] option football coach. he cut his teeth on ken hatfield’s flexbone, and then again, with matt jones. he is not a [passing] quarterback coach. he insightfully said that we somehow saved our “bullets” on offense, following the auburn game. given the pee wee, pop warner league, unsophisticated nature of our offense, why would we hold back or save ANYTHING? if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and at some point starts quacking, guess what? dude, it is a duck. how in the world is this guy going to implement anything in the way of an effective passing attack?

i have tried very hard to stay in support of houston nutt over the years, but with the consistent, boneheaded, coaching decisions on the field and play calling, it is getting extremely difficult to “hold on to the rope” - as he likes to say.

  4. Call me when he’s gone, no school was settle for this, somehow Arkansas BOT/AD has allowed this charade to go on. Tricked Malzahn into getting your an extension, you are nothing but a parasite to the state and the school. You called Malzahn “High School”, lol wow, I’d bet you’d wish you could at least get that much respect now.

  5. Why was there no comment about the “pooch kick” tactic that the coaches called (twice no less) after the touchdown in the Auburn game? This gave the Tigers the precious field position they needed. What a silly call since Auburn was not noted as an exceptional kickoff return team and that they only needed a field goal to win, not a touchdown. What a travesty.

I support the players, but not the coaches. However, I refuse to boo at the game. I will do that at my BBQ at home where I can drown my sorrows.

  6. I agree 73HOG, the pooch kick was horrible, and they did it again after the 1st one went out of bounds. The travesty is that Tajeda can kick it into the endzone… why is he not kicking off? Stupidity only goes so far, and it seems it’s spread like wild fire for the whole coaching staff.
