The Joey Lauren Adams Bowl

It will be billed as the worst matchup in the Southeastern Conference this week. When Arkansas and Ole Miss play this weekend, two teams with a combined league record of 0-7 will commiserate at midfield at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in one, big pity party. Joey Lauren Adams will officiate. The actress, who was born in North Little Rock, now lives in Oxford, and she will try to make everyone feel better with the spunk she displayed in “Dazed and Confused.”

Before the festivities begin Saturday, David Brandt of the Clarion-Ledger has stopped by to psyche everyone up about a game that has so little significance even Lincoln Financial Sports gave it the cold shoulder. Here’s an excerpt from his scouting report of the Razorbacks:

Ole Miss must shake off a controversial ending against Alabama while Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has been under constant scrutiny this season for numerous things, most recently his conservative play-calling.

  1. Ol Nutt seems to think he can’t be fired till 2012.He’s in for a surprise folks.I wonder what new plays Lee wil install to ce CREATIVE.lmao Ol Nutt seems upset that the hogs are losing running Nutts plays.Thats why he hired Lee and now hes upset. What a joke of coaches.

  2. incredibly, arkansas’ play selection has somehow gone from bad to worse. could someone explain what “bullets” we were saving on offense? and david lee, please leave the building.

coaching follies: i) consistent, stupid and untimely penalties [see numerous hits out of bounds, roughing a field goal kicker, pass interferences, kicking the ball out of bounds on an ensuing kick off, etc] ii) play calling, and saving our “bullets” on offense. hysterical [what exactly and why are we saving anything?] iii) unsophisticated, junior high offensive schemes. [pop warner, pee wee football can be more creative] iv) someone who clearly does not know how to coach quarterbacks. casey dick was a highly touted quarterback by most recruiting services coming out of high school [are you still in the building, david lee?] v) continued, bone headed decisions [example: auburn has the ball deep in their own territory, after a third and long goes nowhere with 40 plus seconds to play before halftime. instead of calling an immediate timeout and perhaps getting the ball back in field goal range, we let the clock roll down to two seconds, then call a timeout. auburn runs out the clock with a 4th down running play]

you and your coaching guys are making it really hard to hang here, houston.

  3. I agree completely.A highschool coach could call a better game than these idiots at Arkansas.

  4. Fire Nutt and hire Malzaun.Thats what the fans wanted when Malzaun was hired.Get real fans

  5. Nutt’s comments about his contract being until 2012 are very telling of a man who is oblivious to the fact that your employer can elect to fire you at any time for unsatisfactory job performance. If this is a signal that he wishes to taunt the University, I guess he’s using reverse psychology to what Nolan Richardson did when he said, “they can have my job.” I guess Nutt figures that if he says the exact opposite, he’s ok.

Is this his way of sending a message to Jeff Long, “go ahead, try to fire me”?

  7. Why in God’s Green earth would Gus ever step foot into Razorback stadium again except to kick Arkansas’ tail in Football?

How could anyone ever expect Gus to come back here after the way he was treated? Who in their right mind would ever expect him to take a job back at this school even if it were offered?

Better start looking for Danny Darrell Royal to come here before Gus ever would.

Houston Nutt is even ruining Frank Broyles Good Bye Tour. God does have a sense of humor and irony in this situation.
