Nutt’s merits as an offensive genius debated in print
Just two days after Ron Higgins said Arkansas had a junior-high passing game, the Razorbacks’ sports information department fired back in a not-too-subtle way. In an article about uber-running back Darren McFadden, Andrew Reynolds writes that the rise of No. 5 can be attributed to Arkansas coach Houston Nutt’s “never-quit mentality and offensive craftiness.”
If this was a political debate about the merits of President Bush, Higgins would be Al Franken and Reynolds would be Ann Coulter. Thankfully, this isn’t “Hardball with Chris Matthews.”
But if it was, Higgins would win this argument. He’s unbiased, after all.
Secondly, Nutt’s “craftiness” has gone out the window since former Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn left Fayetteville in January. The WildHog is a shell of its former self and the trick plays that were commonly used in 2006 have virtually disappeared this year. Those are the facts. Obviously, divergent opinions can be derived from them.

totally agree, dude. i am still hanging with nutt by a thread, but the run AND pass attack… attack.. and more attack vanished with clint stoerner and anthony lucas. we always use to play to win, not lose. we have been playing pop warner, pee wee football, offensively, ever since clint and anthony left town.
casey dick got rave reviews coming out of HS from most of the recruiting services. london crawford, an LSU decommit, and some others are very talented receivers. however, they are a product of the system.. now… for lack of a better word. consistently throwing the ball on third and long is about as clever and creative as punting the ball on 4th down.
when the best running back in the country says that we need to work on our passing game, it speaks volumes. just how long do we need to work on it? we will never beat the better teams in the SEC with a junior high school offense. never.
i am still with nutt, as of today. however, i would guess there to be many up and coming, talented and creative coaches more than willing to come to fayetteville with the facilities and undying fan support in place. bottom line: where’s the balance, houston? hopefully, it starts tomorrow night. BEAT AUBURN.
Game plan for tomorrow.run run pass pass run pass SOS every game.Every coach knows our plays lol.Nutt is a Joke.Malzaun had enough input last year to get us to 10 and 4.This yr. forget it.No motion or missdirection. No trick plays. No passes downfield.Just more of the same that Nutt had fed us for 9 yrs.Nutt is an offensive idiot not a genius.Hios ego wont let him keep coaches better than him.Last yr. for Nutt or the fans will revolt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just more of the SOS from gamblerslob.
I detest the man so much I am willing to give up this Razorback football season to get rid of him. Better to go 5-7 this year and no Nutt next year than 7-5 and put up with him again.
Right On!!!!! Houston Nutt was so jealous of Joe Ferguson’s superior knowledge about offensive football and the quarterback position that he could hardly breathe. When Nutt takes money for coaching football it is robbery without a gun, and Broyles is his partner in crime. It is time to call in the FEDS!
