The Hot Seat Bowl
On those rare occasions during the college football season, games pop up that could have long-term ramifications for the two teams involved. Erick Smith of USA Today says the Auburn-Arkansas clash this week is one of those games. His prediction? The Razorbacks will prevail at home, and Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville will be feeling nice and toasty when he sits down next week.
No. 25 Auburn at Arkansas, 7:45 p.m.
With unhappy fans in both Auburn and Fayetteville, Tommy Tuberville and Houston Nutt will be playing a game of musical chairs. Whichever one loses has to sit on the hot seat. Arkansas 21, Auburn 20.
The monitoring of football coaches’ job security is a recent phenomenon that seems to have gained popularity at the same time Donald Trump began jabbing his hand and saying, “You’re fired!” on the show, “The Apprentice.” Now, there are Web sites specifically devoted to predicting the fate of the very men that walk the sidelines during the fall in college stadiums around the country. It’s schadenfreude at its finest.

i have been in nutt’s corner from early on, but please.. start playing to win, houston, and bring this offense into present day times. trying to cram the ball down a very talented group of defenders and bright D coordinators 75% to 80% of the time and then throwing the football on obvious passing downs is not going to get the job done in this league.
according to most recruiting services, casey dick was a very gifted quarterback coming out of high school. we saw some of the talent during the last four games of his freshman year. what we have not seen is any progress under david lee’s so-called offensive scheme. in my opinion, the kid has lost a ton of confidence. blaming the problems with the passing game - or lack thereof - on not having marcus monk is unmitigated nonsense. london crawford decommitted from LSU to attend UA. he can be every bit the playmaker as monk, in the right system. others come to mind, as well.
i am trying my best to stay with you, houston. however, the almost exclusive 3rd and 8, 9, 10…. passing “attack” and getting DMAC, Jones and Hillis battered in the process is about to cast me out of your corner. it’s as if we are playing “not to lose” from the first series in the first quarter onward.
where’s the balance you guys [seemingly] have sought since clint stoerner left town? those were the days when we attacked defenses from the first series to the last, with both run and pass. it almost won a national title, but for the stumble, fumble in knoxville. i will always be a loyal fan when it comes to the players, but it’s getting harder to hang on to the rope, as you say, houston, with the play calling and some of the other decisons from the coaches. play to win, man. BEAT AUBURN
I am 74 years old and have been a Hog fan since the late 1940s and I have never seen such a misuse of talent. Houston, Matt Jones(the great athlete that he is), saved your butt for 4 years, now you have ridden the backs of two more great athletes, McFadden and F.Jones for the same reason, to get to a cheap bowl and save your job.
We should have won the National Championship last year and be playing for it again this year but for a little bit of balance in the offense.
The sad thing is, we have also lost some very good athletes in the last couple of years to out the state colleges, due to your ego trip over a book written by some high school students. Maybe your behavior has been a bit “Dorkie”.
I hope the powers at be ask Tommy Tuberville back for and interview at the end of this season. Houston, you are a good cheerleader, but we need a coach. Go Hogs
