The season hangs in the balance (Let the melodrama begin)

Big game, must-win — whatever is the cliché du jour — it applies to Arkansas’ meeting with Auburn this Saturday at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Ron Higgins, the SEC guru who writes for the Memphis Commercial-Appeal, said a victory over the Tigers could re-ignite the Hogs, who find themselves mired in an 0-2 hole in the conference. Here is what Higgins has to say:

While Arkansas would be hard pressed to win the West — it would have to win six straight SEC games (including a win over LSU in the season finale) and LSU would have to lose at least twice — a victory over Auburn would re-establish some sorely needed confidence.

That may be true. But the Razorbacks face some tough tests down the line. Road dates with Tennessee and LSU remain and the Ol’ Ball Coach will be paying a visit to Fayetteville with South Carolina in November. The jury is still out on how good the Volunteers and Gamecocks are. However, by the end of the year, they could be pretty formidable while Alabama and Kentucky — the two teams Arkansas has already lost to — may wind up being slightly better than average.

Exactly WHO thought this about this season, especially after losing our OC and a slew of recruits, including possibly the best QB in the nation? This is absolutely asinine and typical of sports media in Arkansas. You just DON’T GET IT, do you?

  2. Another Hogville.net Hater…would a Mod pls try and keep the Hate from infecting this site?

  3. We’re not going to start directing the tone of the comments posted here. If our readers are “infected” with “the hate”, as you put it, then we want them to feel free to express those opinions.

Likewise if our readers are infected with “the love” of the Razorbacks then they’re free to post that here as well.

If someone says something you find disparaging about the Hogs then by all means, counter with your take on the situation.

That’s the beauty of a discussion, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

  4. just an observation: i am not really into the Malzahn, et al, argument - one way or the other. you have to take and play with what you have.

however, i don’t think you can consistently win in the SEC by passing or running all of the time. the key is balance.

casey dick was an outstanding quarterback coming out of high school, according to rivals. he seems to have lost all confidence under david lee’s so-called revamped passing “scheme” or “system”. could someone please advise lee that having to throw the football on 3 and 8 [or worse] does not constitute a passing attack. please put this vintage 1960 model, wholly predictable, unimaginative offense in a time machine.
