Wilson proves once again he belongs
How many people would have bet on former Arkansas receiver George Wilson staying in the NFL longer than either of his college teammates, Ahmad Carroll or Cedric Cobbs, who entered the league the same year he did?
Not many. In the 2004 NFL Draft, Carroll was taken in the first round and Cobbs was selected in the fourth. Wilson was never picked.
But there was Wilson in Monday night’s Buffalo Bills-Dallas Cowboys game, cradling Tony Romo’s first pass and returning it 25 yards for a touchdown. Wilson’s interception came in his first career start — as a safety, no less — and it gave the Bills some huge momentum in a game they somehow managed to lose, 25-24, on a last-second field goal by Nick Folk.
It was a Hollywood moment for Wilson, who is the ultimate underdog. He’s never been fast, never been big, never really been a playmaker.
But the man from Paducah, Ky., has always beaten the odds. He was a walk-on at Arkansas and managed to earn a starting role at receiver two years after arriving on campus.
He’s proof that hard work does pay off in the end. The summer before his senior year at Arkansas, Wilson was with a handful of teammates working out in the blazing sun. It was the middle of June, and he was running sprints. He didn’t think anything of it. To him, it was no big deal.
Nothing ever was for Wilson, who always made time to talk to the media and visit with fans. Unfailingly polite, he gave great interviews, offering insightful comments about the team and the Razorbacks’ upcoming opponents. He was a professional even when he was an amateur.
In many ways, it’s why the former undrafted free agent is still playing football for a living — and perhaps the reason Cobbs and Carroll are not.

All of Arkansas’ cornerbacks have been way over rated since Herring came here. They get beat deep nearly every game yet get drafted then flop.Wilson is a class act.Cobbs should have been great but we dont know the whole story.
I wondered if it was the same GW that played at Arkansas, since the announcers kept saying “he used to be a receiver”….
What a game though!
Gamblersob, you are a complete idiot, and your comments just aren’t substantiated with facts…who flopped from the secondary of Herring? You must be one of those Hogville.net Haters.
