Tejada still kickin’

After Arkansas’ drive self-destructed at the UTC 30-yard line, freshman placekicker Alex Tejada made a 47-yard field goal with 38.3 seconds left in the first half. The field goal was the longest of his career. Tejada has now made 9 of 10 field goal attempts this year.
The Razorbacks are leading 17-9.

Compassionate Conservatism

Fans booed loudly when Arkansas elected to punt on a fourth-and-two situation at the Razorbacks’ 48-yard line.
With Darren McFadden and Felix Jones in the backfield, it would have been easy to imagine that Arkansas would feel confident about its chances to pick up the first down. But that was obviously not the case.

Who would’a thunk it?

UTC’s Antonio Miller threw a short four-yard pass to Brent Hayes for a touchdown that capped an eight-play, 59-yard scoring drive that took two minutes, 44 seconds off the clock. Arkansas now leads 14-9 over the Mocs with 7:28 left in the second quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Razorbacks nearly turned it over. But they [...]

McFadden fumbles…again

On Arkansas’ first WildHog play of the evening, Razorbacks running back Darren McFadden fumbled the shotgun snap. UTC recovered the loose ball at its own 41-yard line. When Arkansas has used the WildHog this season, it has been largely ineffective.

Dick to Hillis

Casey Dick found Peyton Hillis crossing over the middle and completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to the Razorbacks’ fullback.
Hillis accented the play by leaping over a UTC defender near the goal line and landing in the end zone. Arkansas holds a 14-2 lead over the Mocs with 1:40 left in the first quarter.

Norton makes nice punt return, McFadden fumbles

Arkansas averaged 3.38 yards per punt return and was ranked 112th in the nation in that statistical category entering today’s game. But Jerell Norton is sure to boost that average after his 45-yard runback to the 23-yard line of UTC.
Moments later, however, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden fumbled at the end of an eight-yard run. [...]

McFadden scores, inching closer to record

Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden scored on a two-yard touchdown run, fumbling the ball just beyond the goal line. The play was reviewed by the officials, but the call was upheld. McFadden, who was 153 yards shy of breaking Ben Cowins’ career rushing record of 3,570 yards before the game started, is inching closer of setting [...]

Norton makes interception

Jerell Norton just intercepted a pass from Antonio Miller at UTC’s 45-yard line. It was Norton’s third pick this season. Last week, during Arkansas’ 66-7 victory over North Texas, Norton returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. It was the longest interception return in Razorbacks’ history.

Anti-Nutt banner flies over stadium

An airplane flew over War Memorial Stadium before the game that read, “Nuttin’ like being 0-2 in the SEC.”
Fans have expressed their displeasure with Arkansas coach Houston Nutt on Internet message boards. But this is the first time that they have gone to these lengths to make their feelings known.

Safety on first play

Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick took a safety on the first offensive play of the game. Center Jonathan Luigs snapped the ball over Dick’s head and it rolled towards the goal line. Dick recovered it and drifted back to the end zone before being gang-tackled there. Tennessee-Chattanooga leads 2-0 with 14:53 left in the first quarter.
