Looking for some positive returns

Arkansas is ranked sixth in the nation in kickoff returns, averaging 28.19 yards per runback. Seems good, right? It is. But when it comes to handling punts, the Razorbacks’ average return (3.38 yards) is the seventh worst in the country. How is that possible?

“Well, fielding the punt has been our number one problem,” Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said. “There hasn’t been any consistency there. That team hasn’t done a very good job. We haven’t done a good job staying on our blocks on that play and giving the returner a chance.”

This week, when the Razorbacks face Tennessee-Chattanooga at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, cornerback Jerell Norton and receiver Reggie Fish will share the responsibility of returning punts after fullback Peyton Hills was charged with the task the three previous weeks.

“We’re just trying to improve that team,” Nutt said. “Jerell has been getting a little bit extra work because of his skills in high school on offense. He played quarterback and receiver. I felt like he may be able to give us a little extra there.”

  1. Reggie seems to be a great practice player but chokes in a game ala Robert Johnson. Our punt team hasn’t done much in yrs so this is no surprise. To heck with breaking one lets find someone who can catch it first.
