Shooting star

Remember when Arkansas’ Patrick Beverley was unknown? Go back 12 months and the feisty 6-foot-1, 172-pound guard was under everybody’s radar. Even here in the Ozarks, there wasn’t much buzz about Beverley until he actually stepped on the court.

Now there is. After an amazing freshman season during which he led the Razorbacks in scoring and won the SEC’s Newcomer of the Year award, he is considered the nation’s sixth best shooting guard by The Sporting News‘ Mike DeCourcy.

Surprisingly, DeCourcy lists Mississippi State’s Jamont Gordon one spot ahead of Beverley, who is coming off a memorable performance for Team USA at the Under-19 FIBA World Championships this summer.
