The last time Arkansas played an opponent from the Southern Conference it didn’t go too well for the Razorbacks. It was 15 years ago when The Citadel stormed into Fayetteville and defeated Arkansas 10-3 in a shocking upset that left the team in shambles.

The day after the loss head coach Jack Crowe was fired, and for the next six years the Razorbacks seemed paralyzed by the crushing defeat to the 1-AA team. From 1992 to 1998, Arkansas made only one bowl and averaged six losses per season. So it comes as no surprise that many regard that September weekend in 1992 as the darkest two days in the program’s 113-year history.

Luckily for Arkansas, there shouldn’t be a horrific sequel to The Citadel nightmare when the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga rolls into War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock on Saturday. The Moccasins are affiliated with the Southern Conference, but historically are one of the weaker teams in their league.

Even when Terrell Owens was there in the early 1990s, they finished with losing records. Right now, they are 1-3 after being crushed 41-16 last Saturday by …you guessed it…The Citadel. Apparently, the situation is so bad that Mark Wiedmer has seen enough.

  1. The same thing might happen. Our defence is our weakest part and no one mentions it.Our corners get beat deep nearlly every game and have for the last 3 yrs.,yet no one says a word.We have the offence to win but not the defence,. it really sucks.
