Tommy the Tiger?
Tommy Tuberville could be on his way out at Auburn, but not because the powers that be on the plains want him gone. Rather, Tuberville may walk away away on his own. Tuberville’s future with the Tigers is the subject of the latest column by rabble rouser Paul Finebaum of the Mobile Press-Register. One of Tuberville’s possible destinations? Maybe Arkansas, where he was a candidate for the head coaching position in 1997 when current Razorbacks coach Houston Nutt was appointed to the job.
While Auburn was righting the ship in Gainesville and Alabama fans were looking to jump ship in Jacksonville, Dennis Franchione (you may remember the name) has inched closer to the unemployment line in College Station with the recent revelation of his insider newsletter scandal.
In the event he is pushed out the door (and if put to a vote of the Aggie Nation, he would go packing), Tuberville would emerge at or near the top of anyone’s list of top contenders for the job. He might also be hotly pursed by Arkansas after the expected removal of Houston Nutt.
However, this is all speculation. There haven’t been any coaching changes at Texas A&M or Arkansas. And who knows if there will be? The only thing we are certain of is that when Auburn comes to Fayetteville on Oct. 13 Tuberville will be wearing blue and orange.

Tuberville is another Nutt.SOS every yr.We need a coach that is on the same page as todays football.Folks its 2007 not 1965.We will never win a NC with Nutt or Tuberville. There both happy with 10 wins a yr or less.

Any speculation, real or fabricated and in regards to coaching moves at this stage in the College Football season is both unfair to the coaches mentioned and worst, its the toughest on the kids. And when did it stop being about the kids? Are we just so hungry for wins, whether its at Arkansas, Auburn or wherever, that we’ve lost sight of what the collegiate athletic experience is all about? How about shaping young men’s character? How many times do you see the commercial during a game listing how many college athletes there are and how many go on to something else after college? Its a huge majority. Speculation about coaches going here or there this early in the season is very detrimental to the young man’s ability to concentrate on his studies and his on-field assignment. Personally, I think Tommy Tuberville will be welcome wherever he is if he is at an institution that puts character and integrity first ahead of wins, bowl appearances or national championships. What good is a program that is a national power while at the same time is without soul? Lets see how the season goes and have these discussions when they are more appropriate.
