Great expectations for Hogs B-Ball?

The Sporting News keeps pumping out the copy. This time the national publication tackles college basketball, and writer Mike DeCourcy poses a few questions before practice starts next month. Here is what he asks about Arkansas:

Was Arkansas undercoached or overrated? It’s possible all that talent just needed another season to mature and coalesce. New coach John Pelphrey will not have the luxury of taking his time getting this turned around.

If Decourcy wants an answer, let’s go with the first choice. The Razorbacks had oodles of talent and experience last season. But Stan Heath never seemed to be the right fit during his five years in Fayetteville, and the consensus was that the 2006-2007 team underachieved. An appearance in the NCAA Tournament isn’t enough to satisfy the frothing fan base here, especially if it is followed by a first-round exit. Heath found that out the hard way when he was forced out in March.

Pelphrey

Now, Arkansas is turning to Pelphrey to inject some more life into a program that is slowly being resuscitated. He inherits a deep roster this season and DeCourcy is right about one thing: Immediate results are expected.
