Revisionist History (WildHog style)

Tom Dienhart is back and this time he is talking about the WildHog formation that Arkansas has employed the past two seasons. But don’t tell that last part to Dienhart. He says a variation of the now-famous package has been in the Razorbacks’ playbook since 1999. Come again?

Nobody likes revisionist history. And in this case that is what Dienhart is feeding the public. If the WildHog was part of Arkansas’ offense the last nine seasons, why did it become such a sensation last year? There is no evidence of Cedric Cobbs, De’Arrius Howard, DeCori Birmingham, Fred Talley, Chrys Chukwuma or Brandon Holmes taking a direct snap from Shotgun. However, it’s very possible Dienhart may have not realized that Matt Jones was a quarterback at Arkansas. Perhaps he thought the lanky playmaker from the River Valley was a running back.

Otherwise, there is really no explanation for why Dienhart would suggest that a formation former Razorbacks offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn had developed was seen when Clint Stoerner was still the Big Man on Campus.
