Scouting North Texas

It’s tough to gather a good sense of a team from watching highlights. But by taking a look at some prime cuts from Oklahoma’s 79-10 victory over North Texas earlier this year, it seems fair to surmise that the Mean Green can’t quite compete with a team like the Sooners.

Other observations that can be gleaned from the footage:

1. North Texas runs its offense almost exclusively out of Shotgun.

2. The Mean Green’s defense is slow, especially in pursuit. Its linebackers and safeties can’t move outside the hash marks quick enough to contain the edges. Arkansas running back Felix Jones is probably reading this and salivating.

3. Oklahoma is good. Really good. No team has played the Sooners close this year. OU’s smallest margin of victory? Thirty-eight points. Five touchdowns and a field goal separated OU and the Miami Hurricanes earlier this month. So, when all considered, the beatdown the Sooners laid on North Texas is relatively palatable if you’re a Mean Green fan.
