Roughing the kicker proves costly

Arkansas was flagged for a roughing-the-kicker penalty on Lones Seiber’s 37-yard attempt. Three plays later, the Wildcats found the end zone with 7:59 left. Their attempt at a two-point conversion was snuffed out when quarterback Andre Woodson was gang-tackled. Arkansas 29, Kentucky 27.

Special teams play has been a big theme in this game, so far.

  1. Why would Ark call a time out on Kentucky’s two-point play?

  2. Greattttt.. just a couple of things.. Just love those ref’s Not only call many bad calls. hell they actually participated.. damn one for the books ya tell me. tackled D mac.. Why to go ref.. think you earned kentuckys most valuable player award for the night. was it you who also called the rough the kicker penalty. hey let kentucky play. but not let arkasas play ball. But anyways. way to go ky. Nutt. well i hope he is out soon. why the hell do you not go for it 4th and one mid feild. with running backs that ark has. Nutt your a sorry excuse for a freaking pussy cat. (pussycat i think you know what i meant)

  3. Why would nut not call for a time out then, seems like his lame ass m-o this year. Nut handed another win to the oposing team just as he did last week, tring to pass 3rd and short, instead of tring to run time off the clock. Makes no sense to me. take tonight for instance how many times did we have that game in the bag. and how many times did nut screw that up. although as i stated earlier the ref’s had a hand in it too. dam nice tackle by that ref id say.

  4. I am not and have never been a “Nutt hater” and still am not. However, the play calling and decisions made in tonights game really have to be called to the carpet!! Couple this with too many stupid penalties and dropped passes and it makes for another mediocre season (i.e. Poulon Weedeater or Independence Bowl). It’s very hard to watch this team albeit D-Mac and Felix do make it interesting. I also see no way that D-Mac can sustain an entire season of SEC play running the ball 30+ times as well as running back kick offs.

  5. well after these last two games i have become a nutt hater. we have seen gliminces of this thru out his tenure. and yes having dmac run as much may help his hiesman but could hurt his nfl carrier as well. Heck put him at QB. who know hed probably better C dick.

  6. Houston and George W. are just alike, too stupid to be doing the job that they are in. What a shame for the players to play as hard as they do and then a fool of a coach throws it away with his play calling. Nutt needs to be fired over the weekend.

  7. I heard Bob Davie say that there are good coaches on the sidelines for the hogs…and i had been thinking that for the last few years, but i am starting to change my mind. The team is completely undisciplined and they just don’t seem to get better. Everyone talks about how Herring is so intense and a great motivator, but how about some discipline. How many offsides and in turn quitting on plays? And how about the personal foul penalties? Anyone know why Dick is still the QB? With North Texas and Chattanooga coming up…Nutt should make the move. D-Mac and Felix are sensational backs, but they need some help…maybe they can teach the receivers how to catch the football!!

  8. Guys - lets be straight. Refs didn’t have a hand in this game (unlike the clock stoppage against Ala). The roughing the kicker was legit (bad form by Ark with slant routes from two sides!). Wins come hard without a QB that is respected by the Defense. Simple as that. Defensive backfield is weak and they overplay (too wild and crazy) - symptoms of Coach Herring’s style. Name me a game in the past few years where Ark didn’t commit a bonehead penalty at a crucial point (remember the late hit against Fla a couple years back?). Couch Nutt certainly has some game - but he lacks control over his teams. Always has. I disagree - no D-Mac at QB - just over compensating for the problem. Give the other QBs a chance. What, pray tell, could that hurt?

  9. Special teams have been an issue since last year! The last 3 games last season, ST gave up 28 points (lost those games by a total of 15 points) and had a punt blocked in each one of those games (please can anyone with any football savvy say that this is a well coached football team?). All of this poor ST play continues into this year. What would you expect if you have the same guy coaching it! How James Shibest still has a job is beyond me. But I blame Nutt for that, he hired everyone of those coaches and chooses to keep them. In my opinion, there are only two asstant coaches that deserve any credit and are worth keeing, and that is Markuson and Rocker.

  10. Mnhogfan…..Your an Idiot!!!!!!!!! This is a sports forum not political. Besides your just mad because George W dupes you stupid liberals at every turn……
