Arkansas returns to base
Arkansas defensive coordinator Reggie Herring said he was slightly concerned about how the defense would react against Alabama on Saturday.
“This is like our first game of the year,” Herring said. “This is the first true test for our base defense. All you saw last [game] was a skel. It could have been a 7-on-7 tournament, for that matter. Basically, that’s the way it ended up.”
In Arkansas’ 46-26 victory over the Trojans on Sept. 1, Herring estimates that the Razorbacks used their standard 4-3 alignment on five plays. Otherwise, they were relying on Nickel and Dime packages to combat Troy’s Spread offense that featured four and five-wide receiver sets.
“You try to match personnel,” Herring said. “It kept us from having our base on the field. That kind of offense really was a one-way offense.”

There are quite a few folks around the country that believe Alabama will win the game Saturday. The Razorbacks have some kinks early in the season, mainly the passing game, but Alabama has some problems too. The Alabama offensive line will be facing a physical Reggie Herring defense that will truly get to display what they are all about.
If Casey Dick can make a few passes to keep the defense honest and the Hog defense slows down Alabama’s Terry Grant, there is no reason why the Razorbacks can’t cruise Saturday.
