BASKETBALL Lincoln and Washington boys tryouts Final tryouts for the 2008-09 Bentonville Lincoln and Bentonville Washington boys eighth-grade teams will be held Thursday, July 31, from 3: 30-5 p. m. at those respective school gyms. Players must have an updated physical on file. FACILITIES Ingram Sports Center The Ingram Sports Center, located on Highway 72 in Centerton, is now available for rent. The Sports Center boasts more than 12, 000 square feet with an indoor gym equipped for soccer, basketball and volleyball. Also included are locker rooms, a concession stand, a lounge area with a kitchen, foosball table and pool table, three offices and a study area. The gym is ideal for martial arts and dance classes. Outside, there is a two-story building with a pressbox, locker rooms and a coaches ’ room where coaches can watch play on two fields. One field is equipped with lights, a state-of-theart sound system, scoreboard and seating for 1, 000. The Center is available for games, leagues and tournaments. Office space is available for lease. The Ingram Sports Center is home of the Ingram Comets Futbol Club and the Bentonville Recreational Soccer program. FOOTBALL Mountaineer Football Camp The 2008 Rogers Mountaineer Football Camp will be July 30-Aug. 1 at the new football stadium and facility at Rogers High School. The camp is for grades 5-8, and will run each day from 9 a. m.-noon. The cost is $ 60 and includes a camp T-shirt and Gatorade. Campers need to bring cleats. Campers will participate in activities and drills that will help them to learn the basic fundamentals of Mountie football. Rogers High School coaches, current and former players will be teaching in the camp. Rogers Youth Football League Rogers Community-School Recreation Association registration for the 2008 Youth Tackle Football League will be taken until Aug. 9 at the Rogers Activity Center. There will be two (2 ) leagues offered: 4 th-5 th grade and 6 th-7 th grade. The registration fee is $ 50 per player (RAC Membership Required ). Each player must show proof of a current physical (2008 ), before equipment will be given out. Equipment will be given out on Aug. 9 at the following times: 7 th grade (9 a. m. ), 6 th grade (10: 30 a. m. ), 5 th grade (noon ) and 4 th grade (1: 30 p. m. ). Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($ 20 ). The membership is current for one (1 ) year from the date of purchase. BHS Black and Lincoln Junior High practices Football practices for Bentonville Black and Lincoln Junior HIgh will begin Aug. 4. In order to participate, athletes must have a physical on file with the school district. Practices are mandatory for athletes who wish to play this season. Bentonville Black will practice Aug. 4-8 from 8-10 a. m. and 4-6 p. m. at the Tiger Soccer and Track Complex. Equipment checkout will be Thursday, July 31, from 8-11 a. m. at Tiger Stadium. Schedules for the remaining football practices will be handed out the first week of practice. GOLF Lost Springs Four-Ball Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers will host its annual Four-Ball Championship on Sept. 13-14. Cost is $ 160 per team. Community Spirit Golf Tournament Delta Trust & Bank is sponsoring its second annual Community Spirit Golf Tournament at Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista on Aug. 3. The tournament will benefit the Gravette Senior Center. The 4-person scramble has a 1: 30 p. m. shotgun start. Teams will consist of a men’s, senior men’s and mixed team flights. There will be door prizes, a hole-in-one contest, prizes per flight and a catered dinner after the tournament. Sponsorship and team registration forms may be picked up at either the Gravette or Bella Vista Delta Trust & Bank Locations or any Bella Vista Golf Course. Entry deadline is July 25. Pea Ridge Golf Classic The 15 th annual Pea Ridge Golf Classic / Four-Man Scramble, sponsored by the Pea Ridge Optimist Club, will be Aug. 9 at Big Sugar Golf Club. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a. m. Included in the entry fee / donation of $ 60 per person will be free range balls from 6: 30-8 a. m., breakfast from 7-8 a. m., lunch, beverages, prizes for two places in three flights, prizes for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the hole and registration goodie bags.

Donations are being requested to help the Optimist Club raise money for projects in the community.

For hole sponsors, a sign will be placed on a tee box to advertise the business or family. Ways to be a hole sponsor include Diamond $ 1, 000 or more, Platinum $ 200 to $ 99, Gold $ 100 to $ 199.

Silver or bronze donations of merchandise, services and cash are also appreciated.

The Bella Vista Women’s 9-Hole Golf League will hold its Summer’s End Member-Guest Tournament on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Berksdale Golf Course with an 8 a. m. shotgun start.

The cost is $ 30 per player or $ 36 if a half a rental cart is needed. The fee includes green fees, continental breakfast, lunch and prizes.

The format will be a four-lady scramble for nine holes. Everyone is welcome whether league members or not.

The deadline to enter is Monday, Sept. 8.

The Boys & Girls Club of Benton County will host the 2008 Exxon Mobil Summer Classic Golf Tournament at the Kingswood and Berksdale golf courses in Bella Vista on Aug. 1-2.

The cost is $ 600 per team or $ 150 per player. That includes two days of 18-hole golf, a goody bag, golf shirt, hat, breakfast, lunch, snack items and beverages.

The golf will be played in a shotgun, four-person scramble. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

GOLF BVWGC Flip-Flop Tournament The Bella Vista Women’s Golf Club will sponsor the 39 th Northwest Arkansas Women’s Golf Association “ Summer’s Flip-Flop into Fall - Part 2 ” on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Kingswood Golf Course. This event is open only to BVWGC 18-hole members and other Northwest Arkansas Women’s Golf Association (NWAWGA ) members and clubs. Entry forms will be available beginning Aug. 4 in the Bella Vista pro shops or on the POA web site at bellavistapoa. com. The two-lady scramble can include 72 teams maximum. All women must have a certified GHIN / USGA 18-hole handicap. Flights will be determined after play. The registration deadline will be Aug. 27 and there are no refunds after that date. Kingswood Golf Course is a spikeless facility and shirts must have sleeves or a collar. Short-shorts are not allowed. The entry fee is $ 37 per person or $ 74 per team for BVWGC 18-hole members. For non-BVWGC members the entry fee is $ 47 per person or $ 94 per team. The entry fee includes a morning snack at 8 a. m., golf with a 9 a. m. shotgun start, closest to the pin, lunch and awards following play at Riordan Hall. There is no rain date, but in case play is cancelled, lunch will be served at 1: 15 p. m. A rain check will be issued for play and prizes will be drawn. Make checks payable to BVWGC. Dues as of July 1 are only $ 25, plus $ 5 for those who have not already paid a handicap fee. Any member who wishes to participate in the hole-in-one award pays an additional $ 10 fee. Play days for the club are Thursdays. All six 18-hole courses in Bella Vista are played and each week a different game is played. Bella Vista Village’s Team Championship Tournament Bella Vista Village will host a Team Championship two-person shootout Sept. 13-14 on the Bella Vista Country Club Golf Course. The two-person team event consists of 36 holes of golf during a two-day stretch. The format for the first day (Saturday ) will be nine holes of modified scotch and nine holes of Best Ball (full handicap will be given in the Best Ball Format ) at the BVCC. The format for Sunday will be 18 holes of scrambles at the BVCC. The field is limited to the first 72 teams. Both team members must be on the Bella Vista Handicap System and Bella Vista Village property owners. Team members may be male / male, male / female or female / female. Men will play the No. 2 tees, men 70 and older will play the No. 3 tees and women will play the No. 4 tees. Flights will be established based on the team’s total handicap. Members will play in that flight for the tournament. If enough interest is shown, a division will be formed for seniors (both members must be 70 and older ), women (both players must be female ) and mixed teams. The entry fee for the event is $ 50. With this event being a no-frills event, green fees and carts are not included in the entry fee. One hundred percent of the entry fee will be returned to prizes, including gift certificates for flight prizes, closest-to-the-pin contests and skins game. The green fee is $ 22 per person with a value card and $ 30 per person without a value card. A cart is $ 24 per player. SOCCER Bentonville Recreational Soccer League Registration is ongoing for the Bentonville Recreational Soccer League, a new program sponsored by Ingram Comets FC beginning next fall. The league’s fall season will be held September through October. The spring season runs April through May. Registration forms are available at the Web site ingramcometsfc. org. The Bentonville Recreational Soccer League is for kids ages 3-10 and is split into three divisions — mini-soccer for U 4 and U 5, U 5 through U 8 and U 9-10. Mini-soccer is a six-week, one-hour per week program featuring games and activities that promote comfort and confidence with the soccer ball, designed for younger players to begin their soccer experience prior to joining a league. This level will be offered on a seasonby-season basis. Cost is $ 30 per season. Birth dates for U 4 and U 5 are Aug. 1, 2003 - July 31, 2005. The division for U 5 through U 8 players has a registration cost of $ 30 for the fall season and $ 50 for both fall and spring seasons. Birth dates are Aug. 1, 2003-July 31, 2004 for U 5; Aug. 1, 2002-July 31, 2003 for U 6; Aug. 1, 2001-July 31, 2002 for U 7 and Aug. 1, 2000-July 31, 2001 for U 8. The division for U 9 and U 10 players has a registration cost of $ 50 for the fall season and $ 75 for both fall and spring seasons. Birth dates are Aug. 1, 1999-July 31, 2000 for U 9 and Aug. 1, 1998-July 31, 1999 for U 10.
