Ozarks Challenge Cup series begins today in Bella Vista

BENTONVILLE — The Northwest Arkansas Lightning Soccer Club and the Springfield (Mo. ) Soccer Club will compete in a home and away competition to determine the Ozarks Challenge Cup winner between the two clubs’ Under 23 men’s teams.
The Ozarks Challenge Cup consists of two matches — home and away — in which the team with the higher aggregate score wins the Cup.
The winning club will take possession of the Ozarks Challenge Cup trophy for the next year.
The first leg will be today at 3 p. m. at Sugar Creek Soccer Park in Bella Vista with the NWA Lightning serving as the host. Admission is $ 5 with a $ 2 discount at the gate for all wearing Lightning apparel. Ages 5 and younger are free.
The second leg will be in Springfield at the Cooper Soccer Complex on Wednesday, July 23.
“ The Ozarks Challenge Cup is a perfect setting for the Lightning’s young adult players to showcase their skills, athleticism and become role models for our younger players who crave watching quality soccer, ” Lightning coach Jakob Nilsson said. “ Many of our 2, 200 registered active club players will come to watch the local heroes play against a wellprepared and experienced Springfield Soccer Club team. ”
The NWA Lightning team features several former standouts from Bentonville, Rogers, Siloam Springs and Fayetteville high schools as well as some current high school players.
