BENTONVILLE - A long night Friday and into early Saturday morning didn't do the Bentonville All-Stars any favors for its game Saturday.
With Bentonville's 9-6 loss to Fort Smith Church League ending at 2: 05 a.m. Saturday, Bentonville had to turn around and play Saturday afternoon in an elimination game.
The effects of last night were evident.
Springdale jumped on Bentonville for seven early runs on its way to eliminating the host team from the North Arkansas 14-yearold Babe Ruth State Tournament with a 13-4 win at Phillips Park.
Springdale, the champions of District 5, scored five runs in the second inning and two more in the third to chase Bentonville starter Joe Nemesi. Nemesi took the loss for Bentonville.
Two Bentonville errors aided Springdale's big inning in the second. Michael Fine, who was the winning pitcher, had a two-run single in the inning. Justin Cox added an RBI double later in the inning.
Kyle Brown had an RBI walk in the third and Fine reached on a fielder's choice to score another run.
After Springdale took an 8-0 lead in the fifth inning, Bentonville showed some life offensively in the bottom of the inning.
Luke Roushelang drove home a run on an RBI groundout and Andrew Turrell ripped a run-scoring single that wound up scoring a pair because of a Springdale error. Bentonville's three runs in the fifth cut Springdale's lead to 8-3.
However Springdale answered with three runs to go up 11-3 in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double by Taruno Nesmar.
Bentonville answered with a run in the sixth to make it 11-4 on an RBI groundout from Luke Crenshaw. Springdale added two more runs in the top of the seventh. Jonesboro 9, Fayetteville 4 Jonesboro rapped 10 hits as a team and pitchers Cameron Waterworth and Gage Weaver scattered six hits in a 9-4 win against Fayetteville in an elimination game Saturday.
Jonesboro rebounded from a 14-6 loss on Friday where they jumped out to a 2-0 lead but couldn't hold on. This time Jonesboro took a 3-0 lead in the second and led 6-2 after three innings.
