LITTLE ROCK — In 2009, it’s certain that state Sen. Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, will propose a law to require people operating motorcycles to wear helmets, he said.

A constituent sent Hendren a helmet intended to cover so much of an operator’s head that it might be too restrictive. But he still believes requiring a helmet is a good idea, and one he’ll work to enact into law, Hendren said.

“ I wouldn’t like that one (the helmet from his constituent ), but... I’m going to (offer the proposal ) anyway, ” Hendren said.

Hendren, a longtime state lawmaker, has offered similar legislation in the past. In 2007, Hendren’s “ helmet” bill, Senate Bill 40, would have required motorcycle operators or passengers to wear a helmet and goggles, glasses or face shields. Senate Bill 40, if approved, would have returned Arkansas to the ranks of states with motorcyclehelmet laws, Hendren said in 2007.
