BENTON COUNTY — A resolution passed by the U. S. House on Wednesday supports designating August as National Heat Stroke Awareness Month.

The designation would help make people more aware of the dangers of heat stroke, and that would help bring something good out of a 1995 tragedy, said U. S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark., the resolution’s sponsor.

Kendrick Fincher of Rogers died in August 1995 after experiencing heat stroke while at football practice. His parents established the nonprofit Kendrick Fincher Memorial Foundation to raise awareness of and help prevent heat stroke, Boozman said.

House Congressional Resolution 296, which was passed by the House on a voice vote, will raise awareness of the dangers of heat stroke and encourage prevention of it, Boozman said.
