BENTONVILLE - When Wal-Mart began, the marking between the "Wal"and the "Mart "was a hyphen. Then it evolved into the star now featured on the signs above every Supercenter.

On Friday, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced to its associates that the evolution continues. Sharon Weber, Wal-Mart medial relations spokesperson, confirmed the change to the Daily Record on Saturday.

The star at the center of the Wal-Mart logo will soon be changing to a yellow-orange burst and will appear at the end of the Wal-Mart lettering. It's the same burst that has started appearing between the "Save Money - Live Better"motto on the company's most recent advertising.

Both the font and the color of the letters have been softened and the "Wal"and "Mart "have been pushed together to appear as one.

Variations of the new logo already have started appearing on printed signage and advertising, but no indication was given as to when the signs on the fronts of Supercenters and other company buildings would be changed.
