Hernandez elected state’s deputy director of LULAC

BENTONVILLE - Rey Hernandez, an instructor for Northwest Arkansas Community College Adult Education, was elected state deputy director for the League of United Latin American Citizens at its state convention held here this past weekend.
The LULAC Arkansas State 2008 convention was held at NWACC on Saturday.
A new board of directors was elected • Arkansas State Director Charles Cervantes (Little Rock );
• Arkansas State Deputy Director Rey Hernandez (northwest Arkansas );
• Treasurer Leslie Gordon (Little Rock );
• Deputy Director of Young Adults Rafael Garcia (northwest Arkansas );
• Deputy Director of Youth Affairs Cynthia Castilla (northwest Arkansas );
• Deputy Director of Women's Affairs Ana Aguallo (northwest Arkansas );
• Communications Director Michel Leidermann (Little Rock ); and • Parliamentarian Bob Gordon (Little Rock ).
There are pending appointments for secretary and for deputy director of elderly affairs, who will be announced by the state director at a later date.
The new board committed to work to increase membership, to expand the opportunities for Latino students in institutions of higher education and to promote Latino participation on state boards and commissions, as well as on boards of not-forprofit corporations throughout the state.
The 2009 state convention will be held in Little Rock and is sponsored by Council 750.
