Dr. Jay B. McDaniel, professor and chair of religion at Hendrix College in Conway, will present "One World, Many Faiths: Christianity and World Religions With a Special Focus on Islam," today and Monday at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Rogers.

He will introduce the various kinds of Islam at work in the world today, including militant Islam and more liberal forms, and also discuss the spiritual side of Islam, Sufism.

By the end of the series, participants should have a good understanding of one of the world's most influential religions and its people. This presentation is sponsored by the Lewis Lecture Series in memory of John Lewis, a longtime member of the church.

There will be two 45-minute lectures, followed by open discussion, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a reception, plus a luncheon program at noon Monday. All events are free.

McDaniel has written five books and edited three on spirituality in the age of consumerism, religion and ecology; religion and inter-religious dialogue; and learning other religions as a path to peace. His teaching and research interests also include contemporary Christian theology, world religions, contemporary Buddhist thought, and Chinese culture and philosophy. His books will be available at the church.

Dr. McDaniel serves as director of the Steel Center for the Study of Religion and Philosophy and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Respect of Life and Environment in Washington, D. C.
