FAYETTEVILLE - Candidate Courtney Henry of Fayetteville outdistanced candidate Ronald A. Williams of Springdale in a nonpartisan race for the District 2 Position 3 seat on the Arkansas Court of Appeals.
The district includes Benton and six other Arkansas counties.
The unofficial returns from the race for Benton County were as follows: 10, 764 votes, or 64 percent, for Henry; and 6, 129 votes, or 36 percent, for Williams.
Ethics rules discourage nonpartisan judicial candidates from talking about issues they may face if elected.
In the campaign, both candidates stressed their different kinds of experience.
Henry began her work for the courts system while still attending the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, working in the U. S. Bankruptcy Court with Judge Robert Fussell. Upon graduation with high honors from law school, Henry began appellate law work with the Arkansas Court of Appeals, working for Judges Frank Arey and Terry Crabtree, and Special Judge Steele Hays.
During the campaign, Williams talked about his practice of law for more than three decades and his service as a deputy prosecuting attorney, as bank attorney and trust officer, as corporate counsel for Radio Shack, as vice president and assistant general counsel of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and as senior partner of Williams and Hutchinson, LLP in Rogers.
