Sulphur Springs FD to get $35K grant

BENTON COUNTY - Members of Arkansas' congressional delegation announced that the Sulphur Springs Fire Department will get a $ 35, 154 grant.
The announcement was made by U. S. Sens. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., and Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and U. S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark.
The grant is provided through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, the legislators said in a Monday news release.
The grant was made through the AFG's Operations and Safety Program, Lincoln said in the release.
"As first responders, our local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe. This federal funding will allow the Sulphur Springs Fire Department to provide its firefighters with the best training and equipment so they can continue to protect local residents," Lincoln said.
Residents depend on the safety and services that fire departments provide, Pryor said in the release. "This grant will ensure our firefighters have the essential equipment and training they need in order to safely and effectively respond to emergencies," he said.
The money is important for Sulphur Springs because it will go toward the repair of equipment and the purchase of new tools, Boozman said in the release.
"Firefighters are among the first in line to protect our lives and property, and it is necessary that they are as well-equipped as possible. This grant will go a long way toward that goal," he said.
The AFG program is intended to enhance first responders' ability to protect the health and safety of the public. Since 2004, the program has provided nearly $ 2. 2 billion to first-responder organizations.
AFG program grants through the Operations and Safety Program are awarded to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
