Aide: Congressman stresses constituent service

BENTONVILLE — Meeting Thursday, the Republican Women of Bentonville heard Steve Gray, an aide to U. S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark.
Gray is senior veterans affairs liaison and advises Boozman on veterans’ and military issues.
Elected for the first time in 2001 and re-elected three times since then, Boozman made an early decision to focus on constituent service, and continues to do so, Gray said.
Boozman stays in touch with constituents in many ways, Gray said. Arkansas Third District congressional office is among the few in Congress from which a person sending an e-mail may receive a letter in reply, one from his representative in Congress, Gray said.
Also, Boozman makes it a practice to return to his 12-county district most every weekend, he said.
The work of the House of Representatives varies, and Boozman’s constituents may ask for everything from federal money for aid to a fire department to the donation of a U. S. flag that has been flown over the Capitol, Gray said.
Club members also heard about the ongoing presidential election and about a local fundraiser for the GOP.
The Republican National Convention will be Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. People who want to file to try to be a delegate to it must do so no later than Feb. 4, said Reta J. Hamilton of Bella Vista, a Republican National Committeewoman.
Also, Benton County Republicans’ annual fundraiser, the Lincoln Day dinner, will be held soon, Hamilton said.
Radio talk show host Neal Boortz will be the guest speaker at this year’s event, which will get under way at 6 p. m. Feb. 22 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers, she said.
